What is that red deck or platform off Nai Harn beach?

Featured Replies

I have noticed this red deck/platform in the sea off Nai Harn beach, maybe about 1km or more out, looks like ocean excavating or drilling platform, not sure, any ideas ...?

Are they looking for oil now...! 😜

I had another careful look today, it actually has a big crane on top..., really odd thing and not read or heard anything about it...!

  • 2 weeks later...

Can you post a pic?

I was away but I'm back and took pics yesterday...

One is from Prompthep east side, other two late at evening at Nai Harn beach, can see all the bright light on it... (Assuming they are the same and not two platforms...!?)

They use those for salvage operations, such as pulling up sunken boat wrecks.

Has anything gone down recently around Racha or nearby? I can't recall seeing anything on AN.

You are probably right, that's the thing, I haven't heard anything about it on any channel..., been there over a month or two that I noticed though...!

Dramatic footage on the Gram of a boat blowing up at Coco Pier, one guy died! RIP. They towed it out toward Koh Tapao Yai where it sank. That was early April. Considering the fire, not sure why someone would want to bring that charred hulk up, but who knows.....

Winds are due to change at some point here, maybe they have it parked for just in case scenarios.

O.K., I think in the Phuket News I found why that's there. I would post the link but I forget the forum rules about doing that.

February 7th, a container ship sank off Koh Kaew Noi. 297 containers some of them with hazardous materials, are popping up. I'm guessing that vessel is snagging the containers as they surface.

Or probably trying to bring up the container ship itself...!?

But those hazardous containers don't sound good, I swim in Nai Harn beach quite often and with wind changing direction soon we will have a nice soup mixture of them there...!!! đŸĨ´

I was going to post "or bring the ship up itself", but can you imagine the weight with 297 containers onboard? Not sure that rig could handle that.

You're right. When the winds change and the seas get rougher, not sure what the port authorities are going to do there............cheers!
