Whats the point of the TDAC arrival card requirement at the airport?

I evidently haven't been following the news in Thailand and arrived at Immigration at Swampie yesterday. The officer was a bit angry at me asking me about why I haven't done the Thailand digital arrival card and he sent me back to do it where I scanned a QR code and filled out the info.

We flew to China in Oct last year and I didnt do it then. No issues from the immigration officer then

Im on an ext of stay based on marriage. So whats the point of making me do the TDAC. I report 90 days and do TM30 when I travel within thailand and return home after a holiday.

It seems like another daft requirement for me. I can see its good to make tourists do the TDAC but not for people like me as I also comply with having a re-entry permit where ALL of the same information already exists on their databases. I cannot wait for my citizenship to be approved...

So you don't have a question rather just a rant.

Agree. Throw in TM30, TM47, online 90 report after travel abroad not possible. etc etc

TDAC takes same time as the previous TM6 (arrival card) ~a minute

AI:

"The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system officially starts on 1 May 2025. It replaces the traditional paper-based TM6 immigration form for foreign visitors entering by land, sea, or air. The digital system aims to streamline entry procedures and improve efficiency for travelers."

I guess it's meant to improve efficiency for travellers by being digital on your phone instead of paper, but really it's got to be intended to improve things for immigration, by no more paperwork and your digital inputting goes on to your digital record.

Good luck with your citizenship application.

My experience of TDAC is that it gets me through immigration a bit quicker. So is not a bad time investment.

Plus, they want me to do it so I do it. Thailand = Thai rules. Me British = I don't get to avoid Thai rules if I want to enter.

Everything is going electronic … EVERYTHING!

Now, with the TDAC, they’ll be able to have quick background information on you about your travels in and out of the country without having to do paper data mining. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, it’s Thailands right to join the 21st century.

Safe travels !

I don't see it.

In Thailand for things such as extensions at immigration it's paperwork as usual.

Print outs of mundane things such as TM47, TM30, Lease etc etc.

For TDL renewal need to obtain COR.

In Bangkok that's now two trips to CW.

Won't even start on the banking requirements for extensions.

All Paper Print outs.

I got grumbled at for taking two printed copies of the TDAC and online Visa approval with me & then for checking closely that the details of my Non-O on entry were correct in the passport. I was delaying things!

As I said to the IO, this is Thailand and I have experienced what happens when your computers are not working. If it can move because it is alive, you want it put into your frying pan. If it is inert, then you want three signed photocopies of it with today's date on them.

The point? Compliance and subjugation

Thailand gaining another weiner.

Sorry, meant winner.

I have to complete one when I travel to Australia, Singapore, Laos and any EU country. Non-UK citizens have to complete one when travelling to the UK. It is all about security and safety, so sorry for the inconvenience.

Removed an off-topic post about a debit card replacement.
