The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has deployed new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles to eight regional airports. This marks a significant step forward in enhancing the emergency response capabilities of these locations. The newly arrived US-made Oshkosh Striker 6x6 fire trucks have already reached Laoag and Puerto Princesa International Airports.

The deployment comes as part of CAAP’s broader modernization strategy to improve airport safety. Advanced firefighting systems equipped in each vehicle include a 12,500-liter water tank, 1,750 liters of aqueous film forming foam, and 250 kilos of dry chemical powder. This initiative follows directives from President Marcos and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez and aims to upgrade the firefighting and rescue fleet across the country.

The newly delivered vehicles are set to enhance operational readiness, ensuring a rapid, efficient, and effective response to aviation-related emergencies. The initiative is a part of CAAP’s procurement of 46 ARFF units, with 16 scheduled for delivery this year. These developments underscore CAAP's commitment to maintaining high safety standards across its airports.

Moving forward, additional vehicles will be delivered to Butuan, Siargao, Busuanga, and Tacloban airports, as well as Bicol and General Santos International Airports. The ongoing modernization program is expected to significantly bolster the safety and emergency preparedness of the Philippines’ airports, providing reassurance to both local and international travelers.
