Vietnam is swiftly becoming a favored destination for Singaporean tourists, driven by social media influence and robust tourism growth. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism reports a significant rise in tourism revenue, from VND1.34 billion (US$50,886) in 1990 to VND840 trillion in 2024. Analysts highlight political stability, an improving education system, and infrastructural development as key factors supporting Vietnam's appeal as a regional tourism hotspot.

Gareth Leather, a senior economist at Capital Economics, emphasizes that these strengths have bolstered Vietnam's consistent growth and regional prominence. Vietnam attracts visitors with its cultural diversity, scenic landscapes, and affordability, enticing younger travelers from Singapore. For instance, Nadia Lim, 25, has visited Ho Chi Minh City twice within six months, drawn by accessible and affordable experiences.

Looking forward, Vietnam aims to attract around 50 million international visitors by 2030. The surge in travel demand has prompted global hospitality investments, with projects in places like Phu Quoc and Vung Tau. Improved air connectivity supports this growth, evident by a 15.5% increase in Singaporean visitors in 2025. Budget airline Scoot has introduced new routes, enhancing accessibility to Vietnam.

However, challenges such as geopolitical tensions and volatile energy prices could impact growth. Rising costs may also affect traveler spending behavior. Despite these risks, the outlook remains positive, with Vietnam recording the fastest tourism growth in Southeast Asia in early 2026, welcoming 6.76 million international arrivals, a 12.4% increase year-on-year. Mainland China, South Korea, and Taiwan remain key markets driving demand.
