I got smart. Stayed married and do the straight Retirement NonO visa.

Standard advice for anyone maintaining substantial funds in bank on going (800k) make sure there is a WILL in place.

i would cheer loudly on the day that Immigration open a Portal with the Visa holder's Thai Bank and view 'live' the balance of their account on Extension Day in the presence and with consent of the Visa holder. End of story, no Letter or Balances required. Either that, Thai Immigration open a Credit Union/Building Society (for want of a better word) and allow Visa holders to deposit their respective amounts in a 'Bond Account' for the time the Visa holder resides in Thailand. Any outstanding debts etc. could be deducted and the Balance, with Interest paid to the Visa holder when they decide to opt out. Just a thought. Thoughts anyone !

I would cheer even louder if the IO would accept the live feed on my phone from my Bangkok Bank, or accept the statements I can get sent to my email.

All Ben does is repeat info from other sources. As for the map & photos needed, it would be useful to mention which imm office.

BTW has he mentioned that he and his better half have a restaurant called Pancake Palace. 🥞

I would cheer even more loudly than @tandor and you if IMM introduced online procedures for submitting extension of stay applications period, in much the same way as has already been done in the case of visas and 90-day reports.

And, on an off-topic note, my cheering would be even louder if His Majesty's Passport Office back in the UK finally permitted us Brits living in Thailand to use their online system at passport renewal time!

He doesn't have a WP, he's a Thai citizen.

Ben is a Thai citizen. Do Thais also need work permits?

Sorry, I did not know that. Apologies.

Judging from the bottom line on the document, the souce is "Thai General Insurance Association"

The OP post had 7 negative emoji

My first post calling it at as nonsense had 20 + positive emoji.

The thread along with most vids from that source is a nonsense

No, that's a direction in the O-A visa section of the form of where to go for more information on the insurance requirements.

Thank you for this correction.

if you are lucky enough to get an on-line appointment up to 45 days (depending on your location) your Bank Letter and Statement must also cover this period, so maybe this is what Mr. Hart is alluding to!

This. Have done does this on a previous year and got caught out the following year, with the bank statement missing a couple of weeks, since it was over 12 months. Had to go back to the bank and re-order.

I am always feeling one "directive" away from being pushed out of this country.

Unless you're skint, not a chance......rest assured, Thailand needs us more than you need them and in regards to your Phillippine quest..........better the devil you know.................just sayin'...............

You're wrong.

If they double the financial requirement, they'll lose a huge percentage of people who are not actually skint.

Of course, they might grandfather the old levels.

If they add health insurance to retirees on O visas, they'll lost a huge percentage of retirees, especially older and uninsurable ones.

When they added that to O-A they did not grandfather that.

Enjoy the view with your rose colored glasses.

Thailand offers no residence security for expats on retirement status.

there'll be an exclusion for that

I think you're missing the point...they need us and there's lotsa competition out there, expats are in demand... it will all work out.......

What are you smoking, dude?!?

I'm hoping for more residence security, not less.

There is NO EXCLUSION for OA visa health insurance so there would also be no exclusion if they add O. That's almost definite IF they do that.

They don't need ALL of us. Wake up. The system is designed to weed out those that they need less.

Fewer richer insured retirees would indeed be preferable for Thailand than a higher volume of more "lower quality" ones.

Different opinions that's all....

I have a very simplistic approach to situations, nothing to do with smoking........People invariably think too much, you included............

Why do you residence security?

And nothing wrong with being 'weeded out', quite frankly there's far too many undesirables of late..not a bad thing..

I don't want to be weeded out, thank you very much, and most of the people that might be weeded out won't want to be weeded out either.

I find your smug attitude towards the lives of expats some of whom have live here for decades and nothing to return to deplorable. Is it similar to Stockholm Syndrome?

Delusional.

Enough off topic bickering.

Most suggestions eg insurance requirements for Non O extensions etc are conjecture.

Deal with things when they happen.

Only if they close the "agent route" at the same time AND don't grandfather in people already in the system. I wouldn't rule it out, but I also wouldn't lose my sleep over it.

Agree.

Thread is based on most unreliable source.

Suggest folk never even bother read reels from that source.

Regarding any changes to requirements in the future, just deal with it when/if it occurs.

Talk about looking under bed for boogie man.

Yes, it's totally unpredictable; and adding an insurance requirement to the Non O visa concerns me greatly. The cost at my age would be over 20,000 baht per month for something that I could never use because of pre-existing conditions. I have been self-insured for the entire time that I've been here. All health care services paid in full.

A friend has an O-A marriage visa. The O-A marriage visa is not required to have insurance where he applies for his extension of stay; but even that could change.

A recent article in the Bangkok Post reported that the new PM has instructed all visas to be reviewed.

Govt to impose stricter visa criteria

The government will undertake a comprehensive review of all visa categories in a move to tighten oversight of foreign visitors and prioritise their overall quality rather than sheer numbers.

He was commenting specifically on you talking about people who cannot qualify for health insurance. There IS an exclusion for that. If you are too old to qualify for policies from the list of approved insurance companies, you can get an exclusion from that requirement.

Putting up a massive amount of locked money is not an exclusion.
