Kudos to Bangkok Christian Hospital - good database!

I dropped into Bangkok Christian Hospital after falling off my motorbike a couple of days ago in Siem Reap - my bike slipped on the loose sand (red road) and I fell heavily onto my side. Since I had already planned a trip to Bangkok, I dropped by the hospital for an x-ray, in case my hurting side was because of a cracked rib etc.

I gave my name to the receptionist, as well as my passport which had been recently-issued and therefore would not be on the hospital's database. But it's good to have an uncommon surname! "Ah Khun Simon, we last saw you in 2002 - are you still living in Saladaeng?"

In the UK, databases are usually 'chucked' after a few years (my credit agency rating and dating was binned after 5 years...) So kudos to the hospital.

One x-ray later, and happily no cracked ribs :) I really need to get a tricycle motorbike....

You probably grabbed the front brake and locked the wheel? better to start off with the combi or back brake, usually left side

It is normal für a hospital here to still find your data after 20 or 30 years.

Same for organisations like DTAC, IT City, you name it.

There is an obvious downside to this.

That's why the EU has " the right to be forgotten"

I meant my motorbike. No braking - I was going into the Mako entrance at a reasonably slow pace and was surprised to find the scooter slipping out from under me. It didn't help that the tyres on this rented vehicle were rather bald.....

Thanks for the positive post. Not enough of that around here lately.

I see 2 people already bpo hoo'd your post. Smh.

Nice, Simon. 24 years between visits and they still remember you. Then again, they probably don't have too many UK Smurfs as patients.

My wife and I have been to this hospital several times. It is very well run and the doctor really helped us.

It's a common reason to drop the bike by noobs such as yourself, he doesn't say what caused it which is strange, bald tyres alone won't do it

That true... I kept trying to explain that my shoulder hurt, but all they did was scrub my naked body vigourously all over to try to rub the blue colour off - had to tell the pretty nurse to go gentle with my tackle!

Seriously, although I am temporarily lodging in Sukhumvit, I made the short trip to Silom because I remember how good (and cheap) that hospital is.

I did say what caused it - loose sand on a red road... not enough traction 'cos of the bald tyres.

Yes and no. I'd been going to Chula Hospital for 30 years. Every few years, they'd trash the paper records to make room. So continuity of care was impossible.

When they switched to digital records, the paper records were not scanned in.

Rather like being born-again!
