Any idea where or which Pharmacy might stock Savlon

Featured Replies

I thought most would but apparently not. Boots was my suggestion to her but they dont stock it in Bangkok. Somewhat bemused at that

Is this an "online" option to buy it ??.....I'm not a user of the usual sites but am sure she could if I knew which one

Thanks

Do you mean cream or liquid? Assuming you mean the cream

There are also many other brands of same thing in Thailand. Boots probably has, just other brand name. Ask for chlorhexidine + cetrimide instead of specifying Savlon.

Yes I meant the Cream thanks

Lazada or Pharma Choice: Bug Bite. Look for Dettol, Betadine or Bepanthen

The Savlon on Lazada is made in China , do you want to trust that ,

also the price is ridiculous, I get my daughter to send me a couple of

tubes from UK , along with some other stuff , you also cannot get

Dettol cream in Thailand anymore.

Just make sure you read the ingredients, as first one I saw on LAZ, didn't have either ingredient: Cetrimide 0.5%, Chlorhexidine gluconate 0.1%

Yes I saw that 899 Baht !!

I checked via Post Office and can be sent in jiffy bag with declaration

Savlon is great, and I have used it for decades. But have been unable to obtain it in Thailand; or anything similar with exactly the same ingredients in Thailand. For me, personally, I have found locally recommended similar products not as effective as Savlon.

Neosporin is another problem. I also used it for many decades for small skin cuts and burns. You used to be able to get it online via Amazon and iHerb (until a couple of years ago), but now it cannot be shipped to Thailand.

Sheryl, Several once popular antiseptic lotions and creams, QUADRiDERM for one seem to have disappeared from the Thai market. Any particular reason for this? I had noticed that hydrocortisone 05% had been removed from the Quadriderm formulation several years ago. Has hydrocortisone been restricted?

Topivcal hydrocortisone (which Quadriderm does not contain) is in no way restricted, readily available in many brands over the counter. As are other steroids e.g. betamethasone (the steroid contained in Quadriderm), clobetasol etc.

Quadriderm is still available but expensive and not widely foubnd as there are less expensive preparations. It contains a mixture of 4 ingrediants: betamethasone (a steroid), tolnaftate (an anti-fungal), gentamycine (an antibacterial), and iodochlorhydroxyquin (an antyibacterial),. So a sort of shot gun approach. If the nature of the problem is known, or can even just be narrowed down a bit, more specific treatment would be preferrable.

Other brands containing these same 4 drugs include Dertec and Dermaheu. There are also many brands - too many to list - that combine betamethasone + gentamycin, or other steroid + other antibiotic. And many, many brands that combine betamethasone or other steroid with an antifungal.

What exactly are you trying to treat?

Thanks for your usual detailed reply. Quadriderm was one of those products I kept on hand as first line treatment when rashes or other skin blemishes suddenly appeared. It seemed to be successful more often than not. Last year I noticed the tubes I had on hand were way past expiration but when I sought to replace them, "No Have" was the response at several pharmacy's including Fascino. The person at Fascino said they could no longer obtain it.

Thanks for the list of alternatives. No specific conditions requiring such treatment at this time.
