Painting Conwood-Artificial Wood

Featured Replies

I am looking at some new HDF wood doors. They come pre-primed and have a false wood grain. I want to paint them a wood colour (the same as the old plywood veneered (thai style) doors), but i am worried that the colour will not be realistic.

Here is the product i am looking at. It has several wood colours.

It's not going to look like wood.

I'd go with high-gloss TOA Glipton.

If you have not hung the doors yet, spray them.

That's what i am worried about.

The original doors match the floor tiles, so i am not sure what to do. I want a more modern door, but they must tie in with the colour scheme.

Pick a color that looks good with the wood floors.

HDF is compressed wood fibres in resin so is non-porous. Fiberstain - the product in your picture - is a wood stain so is intended to soak into the wood fibres, which it can't do on HDF. TOA Fibrestain is primarily designed for fibre cement boards which are porous.

Paint is suitable for HDF but not a wood stain.

There are 2 types: transparent and opaque. The opaque is like a paint and uses a white primer.
