Indian Army personnel have arrived in Cambodia for a 15‑day military exercise designed to strengthen defence ties and improve cooperation on counter‑terrorism and disaster relief.

The exercise, known as CINBAX‑II, began on 3 May at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov RCAF Training Centre in Kampong Speu province. Around 120 Indian soldiers, mainly from the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, are taking part alongside 160 Cambodian troops from the Royal Cambodian Army.

This is the second edition of CINBAX, following the inaugural exercise in Pune, India, in 2024. The programme includes command post drills and field training, with scenarios reflecting challenges faced by UN peacekeeping forces in semi‑urban environments.

Training will cover drone operations, mortar drills and sniper tactics, aiming to build joint operational capacity.

India’s Ministry of Defence said the exercise is part of its wider defence cooperation with friendly nations and holds “significance in the backdrop of evolving global security challenges.” Officials stressed that the drills highlight both countries’ commitment to maintaining peace and exchanging best practices.

The exercise runs until 18 May and is conducted under the framework of Chapter VII of the UN mandate. Analysts note that the collaboration underscores growing defence ties between India and Cambodia, while also signalling a shared interest in addressing regional security concerns.

By combining counter‑terrorism training with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, CINBAX‑II reflects the dual challenges facing modern armed forces. For both nations, the exercise is not only about military readiness but also about building trust and mutual understanding in a volatile global climate.

Maybe they could be deployed on Cambodian soil to help protect Hindu temples containing statues of Vishnu and Buddha from Thai military aggression??
