Vietnam and Cambodia have intensified monitoring and prevention efforts against hantavirus, following an outbreak on a recent cruise ship. Vietnam's Ministry of Health has instructed the Hanoi Department of Health to enhance surveillance at Noi Bai International Airport, implementing measures to detect and isolate potential cases. Parallel efforts are underway in Cambodia, where health authorities have bolstered emergency preparedness at Techo International Airport to mitigate virus transmission.

The response in Vietnam includes increased surveillance, health monitoring of travelers, and strict quarantine protocols for vehicles and goods. CDC Hanoi has been tasked with rodent control and offering training to healthcare staff on using protective equipment. Hospitals in Vietnam have been directed to prepare for potential cases by maintaining adequate supplies and implementing early detection and intensive treatment protocols.

In Cambodia, Health Minister Chheang Ra conducted an inspection to ensure readiness at Techo International Airport. Measures include temperature screening, quarantine areas, and rapid responses to suspected cases. Both countries aim to contain the virus following warnings from the World Health Organization which links the outbreak to the MV Hondius cruise, affecting multiple passengers and resulting in fatalities.

Experts warn of potential additional cases if prevention measures aren't adequately enacted. The hantavirus, primarily transmitted through rodents, poses significant health risks, but human-to-human transmission remains rare. The focus remains on monitoring and supportive care, as no specific treatment exists for the virus.

Looking Ahead, authorities in both Vietnam and Cambodia plan to maintain heightened surveillance and public awareness campaigns to manage and prevent any further outbreaks.
