Starmer Premiership In Death throes As Cabinet Revolt Erupts

Keir Starmer faced the gravest crisis of his premiership last night as senior Cabinet ministers reportedly told him his time was up following Labour’s catastrophic election losses and a disastrous attempted reset speech.

The Prime Minister now enters a mutinous Cabinet meeting under mounting pressure to resign, with dozens of Labour MPs openly demanding he quit and senior figures already manoeuvring for the succession battle.

According to Labour sources, a delegation of top ministers went directly to No10 on Monday night to confront Starmer after his speech failed to stop the growing rebellion engulfing the party.

Among those reportedly urging him to go were Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Defence Secretary John Healey.

“It’s happening,” one Labour source reportedly said.

“The PM has had his say, people have heard him out, but it has not changed minds. The herd is moving.”

Labour Civil War Explodes Into Open View

The revolt intensified after Starmer attempted to steady his collapsing leadership with a speech warning that forcing him out would plunge Britain into “chaos.”

Instead, the intervention appears to have detonated the crisis even further.

By late Monday night, 79 Labour MPs had publicly demanded either his resignation or a timetable for departure.

Four ministerial aides quit the Government outright, while others openly called on him to stand down.

Charlotte Nichols delivered one of the bluntest verdicts yet.

“It’s done, it’s over, it’s time for someone else to come in,” she told LBC.

Behind the scenes, rival camps are already mobilising.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham are both said to be quietly gathering support as Labour descends toward a potential leadership bloodbath.

Angela Rayner Backs Burnham Return

Angela Rayner has also emerged as a central figure in the crisis, publicly backing Burnham’s return to Westminster and reportedly discussing a “dream ticket” arrangement that could see her return as deputy leader.

Speaking to the Communication Workers Union, Rayner said Burnham “should never have been blocked” from Parliament earlier this year.

“It was a mistake that the leadership of our party should put right,” she said.

Burnham remains the favourite among many Labour activists, but logistical chaos threatens his candidacy because he currently lacks a seat in Parliament.

Allies reportedly hope a sympathetic MP in north-west England could step aside to allow his return through a by-election.

Markets Rattle As Labour Panic Deepens

Financial markets reportedly reacted nervously to the growing possibility of a chaotic leadership contest dragging Labour further to the Left.

Government borrowing costs edged upward amid fears of prolonged instability at the heart of Westminster.

Meanwhile, senior Labour figures have conspicuously avoided publicly backing Starmer.

Rachel Reeves and Deputy PM David Lammy remained largely silent as the crisis escalated.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy was one of the few Cabinet members sent out to defend the Prime Minister publicly, acknowledging his “mistakes” and deep unpopularity with voters.

Reform Surge Leaves Labour In Panic Mode

The revolt comes after Labour suffered devastating local election losses, shedding around 1,500 council seats and being pushed into third place in both Wales and Scotland.

Nigel Farage’s surging Reform UK has sent panic through Labour’s Red Wall heartlands, while the Greens also ate heavily into Labour’s urban support.

Conservatives seized on the chaos immediately.

Kemi Badenoch mocked Labour’s civil war, saying:

“They are busy arguing over who should drive the car, but the truth is they are all heading in the wrong direction.”

Former Labour spin chief Alastair Campbell warned MPs were descending into “headless chickenry.”

King’s Speech Overshadowed By Political Meltdown

The crisis now threatens to overshadow the upcoming State Opening of Parliament, where King Charles III is due to outline the Government’s legislative agenda.

Questions are already swirling around whether Starmer can politically survive long enough to even deliver it.

For now, Labour appears trapped in open warfare — with rival factions circling, ministers turning publicly against their own leader and a government increasingly paralysed by internal collapse.
