My First Extension (Nakhon Phanom)

Featured Replies

I am looking for some feedback and advice regarding my upcoming, very first visa extension (based on retirement, if possible).

I entered Thailand at the beginning of May on a Non-Immigrant O visa (Spouse of a Thai National / คู่สมรสของบุคคลสัญชาติไทย) and currently live with my wife in That Phanom. I would like to file my first extension of stay based on "Retirement" (since I am over 50) at the Nakhon Phanom Immigration Office.

I plan to visit the immigration office ahead of time to verify their specific document requirements.

Based on my research, I believe the required documents are as follows:

Application Form and Fees:

  • Fee: THB 1,900 in cash (Do immigration offices really not accept PromptPay yet?).

  • Form TM7: Original completed application form (Do I need to provide copies of this as well?).

  • Photos: Two recent passport-sized photos (4x6 cm).

Visa and Passport Information:

  • Original passport

  • Copies of my passport (the main photo/ID page and the page with my current entry stamp)

  • A copy of the Non-O e-visa used to enter the country

  • A copy of the electronic TM30 receipt (Notification of Residence)

Banking and Financial Information:

  • Original bankbook, updated with a small transaction made the day before the application

  • Copies of the bankbook (the account information page and all pages showing transactions).

  • An original bank guarantee letter confirming the account balance.

  • (Unsure): Do I also need an original 3-month or 6-month bank statement showing past transactions?

Proof of Residence:

  • Original and a copy of my Yellow House Book (Tabian Baan).

  • Original black House Book and copy of my wife/family.

  • Original and a copy of my wife's Thai ID card.

  • (Unsure): Do I really need to draw a hand-drawn map to my house?

Does anyone have an up-to-date checklist for the Nakhon Phanom office, or any specific experiences worth sharing?

My Biggest Concerns:

1. The THB 800,000 Deposit: I have held an account with Kasikornbank (KBank) for two years and transferred more than enough funds into it two years ago. However, the transaction code for my international transfers always shows as "TRN". According to my bankbook, "TR" stands for Transfer/Cheque and "N" means No-Book Transaction.

When I asked my local KBank branch for a foreign remittance source confirmation letter (FET form), they did not understand what I needed and told me to contact the call center instead. Would it be worth visiting the KBank branch in Nakhon Phanom city instead? Since they are closer to the immigration office, they might have more experience with these requests.

2. Changing the Extension Reason from Marriage to Retirement: I read here in this forum that it is impossible to change the reason for your very first extension from the original reason stated on your Non-O visa entry. Is this true? If so, it means I must apply for my first extension based on marriage. We were married in Bangkok over 20 years ago. If I need an updated marriage verification printout (Kor Ror 2), can I obtain this at the local That Phanom District Office (ที่ว่าการอำเภอธาตุพนม)?

Thank you in advance for your feedback 🙂 I will be sure to share my experience here once the process is complete!

The 800k does not need proof of coming from abroad. That is only needed for an initial non-O (which you have already) or for monthly income proof if using that method. However, If you do get a statement from the bank get it in Thai and you'll see that the transfers are noted as foreign.

If you entered with a Non O based on marriage your first extension will need to be based on marriage.

Having stated that it's worth a shot running past immigration your desire to obtain extension based on 50+

Note: check the PDF eVisa to see if the Non O is based on marriage is mentioned. As stated check with immigration office your intention to apply for extension based on retirement.

Have the eVisa print out with you

In Ratchaburi the transaction has to be the same day. You need to check what your office wants.

They usually want a 12 month statement, some offices 13 months. Once again check with your office.

My understanding is you can get the updated KR2 at any district office but from your local office is probably best. Costs pennies.

NKP = 12 months

I doubt it as, although very helpful, NKP kbank has no one that speaks English, and, not dealing with many farang, they are not too knowledgeable about any immigration matters that are not run of the mill. Though they would probably phone head office to check on it for you.
