Featured Replies

Had non-o wife extension

Work permit valid to Jan 2028 - company director

Forgot re-entry permit.

May have to enter as tourist??? Will book flight out to be safe

Advice?? No 400K today but can put there immediately in minutes.

Any got any good advice to get this sorted????

WP on NON-O not NON-B

Thanks ib advance guys

Geez man.

@Tod Daniels @BrandonJT

Any advice.

In my thinking you have killed off the current extension without reentry permit.

Bit surprised the io at departure from Thailand didn't pick up your oversight and mention it.

Moving forward.... You will be good to be given visa exempt entry.

IMO opinion you won't require an onward flight.

Explain intention to obtain a new Non O.

You can do that from visa exempt entry using TM87.

Which immigration do you deal with.

Don't beat yourself up stuff happens

To obtain the Non O from visa exempt entry the 400k only needs to be in account when you apply.

With the 90 day stamp from Non O you have time to season the funds for two months and obtain 12 month extension.

Boy that sure was a fail...

Yep come in free stamp / visa exempt, get the 400k in the bank, get your documentation together and go apply for the in-country 90 day non-o visa based on marriage to a Thai, pay the 2,000 baht, get the return date, go back get the non-o inked in along with the new 90-day stamp, 2 months later apply for the year extension for 1900, get the under consideration stamp go back on that date get the year extension inked in and then buy a reentry permit 😉

Good advice.

Nice jumper punch with advice buy reentry permit.

Implications for work permit moving forward? That's what I wasn't sure about.

Lesson for others.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll post the outcome in case it's helpful to someone else.

I just went up to one of the queue supervisors 4 stripes.

Told him I'd been idiot, in which he smiled in agreement.

He said I'll get 60 days (British)

I asked if I need book a flight out, he said never mind.

I asked if I need grab cash, he said never mind.

I asked if I could still work, he said yes.

Ushered to the Thai counter...

So now I'm a tourist, he reckons the can fix it at Korat immigration (which I doubt)

Thanks All

First up my first post is exactly what occurred. 60 stamp. No onward flight etc.

You can't "fix it at Korat"

You can do as I outlined = start over.

The one thing you need to look into is exited Thailand with out closing work permit.

Don't think this will be huge issue.

I suppose I will go round the immigration office on Monday (I really love that place).

I don't think the airport immigration guy was quite right about the work permit and his comment ''I can still work'' (I think that was more common sense than actual law), although the days of us being responsible for cancelling our work permits ended years ago with that royal decree, the onus is completely on the company now which doesn't really help cos I'm also the bloody director.

But now we have these new credit card sized work permits, and I got 18 months left on it!

Surprised I couldn't find much on here about this very same issue, I really must be the Thailand Idiot! Even after being here 20 years!

I’m not sure if you’ll have a problem with the Labour Dept next time you renew your Work Permit. They only ask for (1.) A copy of your passport (Information page, CURRENT VISA PAGE, LAST ARRIVAL PAGE) and (2.) the original of your passport.

There is nothing to stop you immediately applying for the Non O once you have transferred 400K into your bank account.
You don't have to wait 60 days the VE entry allowed.
Once the Non O is approved, your Immigration status changes from Tourist to Non Immigrant and you can legally work again.
Your work permit is invalid if you lose your permission of stay from an extension, but you can reapply as soon as you get that Non O visa.

Actually one can no longer renew WP at Labor Dept. Have to use a new digital system which is a %&(%#! mess. But while OP may well have problems with it, it won't be because of the brief visa lapse.

I do recommend OP, once visa sorted out, work on registering under the new digital system. May go smoothly but may not -- he may find, as I did for my household help, that none of his current information made it into the new online system, making it impossible to register except as a new account (in which case it will show him as not holding a current work permit, so cannot then renew). At which point expect weeks/months of aggravagation or hire an agent to assist.
