Vietnam’s government has issued a decree offering scholarships to students in key scientific and engineering fields to foster a skilled workforce for future national growth. This new policy, effective July 15, 2026, will provide significant financial support to Vietnamese nationals enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in critical areas such as biology, computer science, and engineering. The initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance the country's science and technology sectors.

The decree, comprised of five chapters and 17 articles, outlines eligibility criteria, scholarship amounts, and obligations for students and educational institutions. It targets full-time students in basic sciences and strategic technologies, identifying fifteen priority fields essential for national innovation and development.

Eligibility for scholarships includes a top finish in national or international competitions, or academic achievements such as a combined score of at least 22.5 in key subjects in the national high-school graduation exam. Scholarships offer monthly stipends ranging from VND3.7 million to VND8.4 million, depending on the level of study and field, with specific criteria for maintaining support.
