Iran Missiles Fly As US Hits Back And Peace Talks Falter

Months of fragile diplomacy were thrown into doubt Tuesday after Iran launched missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain and the United States responded with airstrikes on an Iranian military facility in the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest exchange marks one of the most dangerous escalations since the ceasefire that halted direct fighting between Washington, Tehran and Israel earlier this year.

Missile Attack Sparks Immediate US Response

According to US Central Command, Iran fired missiles at both Kuwait and Bahrain. The missiles aimed at Kuwait reportedly broke apart before reaching their target, while US and Bahraini forces intercepted those heading toward Bahrain.

The US military said it responded by striking an Iranian military ground-control station on Qeshm Island, a strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed it had targeted the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and another regional country. Tehran described the attack as retaliation for what it said was a US strike on an Iranian-bound oil tanker attempting to breach Washington's naval blockade.

Ceasefire Talks Appear To Be Unravelling

The military confrontation came amid reports that Iran had stopped communicating with international mediators involved in ceasefire negotiations.

Iranian media outlets close to the Revolutionary Guard reported that Tehran suspended contacts after demanding a halt to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

However, President Donald Trump rejected claims that talks had collapsed.

"The conversations between us have been going on continuously," Trump said, insisting negotiations remained active despite reports to the contrary.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also struck a cautiously optimistic tone, suggesting diplomatic channels remain open even as tensions rise.

Lebanon Becomes A Major Flashpoint

A key obstacle remains the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran has increasingly linked progress in broader ceasefire negotiations to an end to Israeli military operations against the Iranian-backed group.

Israel and the United States continue to reject that linkage, insisting Lebanon remains a separate battlefield.

The disagreement has complicated efforts to secure a wider regional settlement and threatens to drag multiple conflicts together into a larger confrontation.

Economic Crisis Tightens Pressure On Tehran

While missiles and diplomacy dominate headlines, Iran faces a mounting crisis at home.

Official figures show annual inflation has surged to 77.2 per cent, with prices for essential goods and services rising by more than 113 per cent over the past year.

Economists warn the country is approaching levels of inflation not seen since World War II.

The Iranian rial has also collapsed, falling from around 32,000 to the US dollar in 2015 to more than 1.7 million today.

Analysts warn that soaring prices, sanctions, war damage and continuing economic isolation could trigger a fresh wave of unrest similar to the nationwide protests that have repeatedly shaken the Islamic Republic in recent years.

Region Remains On Edge

The latest missile exchanges underline how quickly the fragile ceasefire could unravel.

With peace talks faltering, tensions rising in Lebanon, and Iran facing severe economic turmoil at home, hopes for a lasting settlement remain uncertain.

For now, both sides continue talking — but they are also continuing to fight.

Since day one of this conflict, the US has gravely underestimated the weapons capability and the resolve of the regime/people of Iran. I know the US say they are winning, but they are not, and this tit for tat type of war is just harming the rest of the world. Hopefully the leaders will see sense soon.
