While trying to wiggle a USB stick out ot my computer, the thing broke apart horizontally and the innards were disturbed. I put it back together and tempororaly secured it with an elastic band. It will not connect and does not show up on the screen. Are there any experts who can advise how to recover the data?

Which model exactly? Perhaps you can plug it in without the outer parts.
