Trump Won't Rule Out Cash For US Capitol Jan 6 Cops Attackers

USA today

Donald Trump has refused to rule out compensating people convicted of assaulting police officers during the January 6 Capitol riot, reigniting controversy over a proposed $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund.

Speaking during an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Trump defended supporters prosecuted over the 2021 attack on the US Capitol and argued that many had been treated unfairly by the justice system.

When asked whether people who attacked police officers should receive taxpayer-funded compensation, Trump stopped short of ruling it out.

"I wouldn't be inclined to say so, but I have to see it," he said.

'People Have Been Destroyed'

Trump went further, suggesting many January 6 defendants deserved compensation after what he described as the destruction of their lives.

"If it was up to me, I'd pay them the kind of money that they deserve," he said. "People have been destroyed. Lives have been destroyed."

More than 140 police officers were injured during the Capitol attack as thousands of Trump supporters attempted to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.

Nearly 1,600 people were charged in connection with the riot, with many convicted of offences ranging from trespassing to violent assaults on law enforcement officers.

Fund Faces Legal Trouble

The comments come despite mounting uncertainty over the future of the proposed anti-weaponization fund.

A federal judge temporarily blocked the scheme in May while a legal challenge proceeds through the courts.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche later told lawmakers that the administration was no longer moving forward with the fund.

Yet Trump's latest remarks suggest he remains personally supportive of the idea and continues to argue that many January 6 defendants were unfairly prosecuted.

Pardons Already Sparked Backlash

On his first day back in office, Trump issued pardons to around 1,500 people connected to the Capitol riot, including individuals convicted of attacking police officers.

The move drew fierce criticism from law enforcement groups and political opponents, who accused the president of rewriting the history of January 6.

Former Vice President Mike Pence recently broke with Trump on the issue, saying people who assaulted police officers that day "never should have been pardoned and they should never get a dime."

Trump's latest comments are likely to intensify that debate, with critics arguing that compensating convicted rioters would amount to rewarding violence against police officers.

I've been binge watching "Epstein Island" an AI generated TV show based on the old "Fantasy Island" script

Lots of guest stars. I especially loved Howard Lutnick's appearance and Jeff tells Ghislaine he's there for a family vacation...

A vacation away from his family.

Later there's a scene where he's talking to a 16 year old girl at an island bamboo bar and she asks him why he has a picture of his family with him

"So I can say I brought my family"

It's hilarious. 😂

Yes he will , because he knows they are his private army and are stupid enough to

do his will, whatever it is in the future, give them cash ,give them pardons and they

will stay loyal ....
