BUNGEE HORROR: Workers Flee After Woman Thrown To Her Death

Final Post Before Fatal Jump

A 21-year-old Brazilian woman posted a chilling message on social media moments before she plunged to her death in a catastrophic bungee jumping accident that has shocked the country.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a newly qualified sports and physical education graduate, wrote: "Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge?" as she prepared for the leap from Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo.

Minutes later, she was dead.

Fatal Error Caught On Camera

Disturbing footage circulating online shows Maria Eduarda wearing a helmet and harness as two workers carried her to the edge of the bridge.

One held her legs while another supported her torso before they launched her into the air in a "Superman" pose.

But investigators say she had not been attached to either the bridge or a bungee cord.

As she fell around 130 feet, horrified witnesses could be heard screaming: "The rope, people, the rope!"

The mistake proved fatal.

Workers Allegedly Fled Scene

Brazilian police say two men fled into nearby woodland shortly after realising what had happened.

A helicopter search was launched and six people were eventually arrested.

Three men, including two company workers and a civilian firefighter, have reportedly been charged with homicide with implied malice.

Investigators said none could explain how such a basic safety failure occurred or why final safety checks were not carried out before the jump.

Company Had No Permission

Local authorities claim the company operating the event did not even have authorisation to use the bridge.

Lead investigator Andrea Dantas Levy said evidence suggests the tragedy resulted from a complete failure to verify whether Maria Eduarda was properly secured before the jump.

Police believe the missing attachment point should have been obvious during routine safety inspections.

Community Mourns Popular Teacher

Friends, family and colleagues paid emotional tributes to the young woman, describing her as energetic, ambitious and full of life.

The fitness centre where she worked suspended operations as a mark of respect, saying she left a lasting impact through her kindness, dedication and enthusiasm.

One friend described the accident as a preventable tragedy caused by "a lack of attention and responsibility."

For many in Brazil, the footage has become a grim symbol of how a single overlooked safety check can turn an adventure into a catastrophe within seconds.

WARNING!! HORRIFIC VIDEO

Horrible. The whole point of Bungee jumping is that it involves a bungee... This looked like a mafia style execution :(

Exactly, and i wonder how this could possibly happen, unless they were drinking and went through with it too fast. It surely might save lives when everyone hears about this who intends to try bungee jumping someday. They'll be waiting until things are secured with them. RIP that so many die on vacations.

I've seen this video pop up many times on my social media feed and its horrendous. I've done some pretty dangerous/risky stuff in my life and I have always, without fail, checked the parachute/rope (or whatever piece of equipment is absolutely essential to keep me alive) myself at least 3 times before attempting said risky adventure no matter how many experts have already checked it. How someone can get on this "ride" without realizing or noticing they are not attached to a rope is beyond my level of comprehension.

Yes, the idiots running this should have attached the rope, yes there should be several levels of checks before throwing someone off a bridge and yes, one or multiple people should go to jail for manslaughter, but she really could and should have saved her own life here.

It is called Bungee JUMPING not THROWING.

Surely she should have checked herself that the rope was tied to her properly, or that a rope even existed. There are so many other people standing behind the action, and no-one noticed?

I would have if I were stupid enough to do it. So much for the crash hat!

An inappropriate joke has gone walkabout!

Let's keep this at least reasonably serious.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
