Trump's Iran Deal Faces Reality Check As Nuclear Questions Remain Unanswered

Peace Agreement Signed, But Core Nuclear Issues Unresolved

President Donald Trump is celebrating a breakthrough agreement with Iran that he says will permanently prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

However, many of the key objectives that sparked the conflict remain unresolved, with the agreement serving largely as a framework for future negotiations rather than a final settlement.

While both sides have agreed to continue talks, Iran has not yet dismantled its nuclear programme, surrendered its enriched uranium stockpile or accepted a detailed inspection regime.

Strait Of Hormuz Reopens As Blockade Ends

The clearest achievements so far involve maritime security.

The agreement provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping without tolls and includes the lifting of the American naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Those measures are designed to restore stability to global energy markets and reduce tensions in one of the world's most strategically important waterways.

Iran Yet To Surrender Enriched Uranium

One of Washington's biggest demands remains unresolved.

Iran has not destroyed its highly enriched uranium stockpile, much of which is believed to remain buried beneath damaged nuclear facilities following last year's conflict.

Removing, transporting and ultimately destroying the material presents enormous technical challenges that negotiators have yet to solve.

Verification System Still Needs To Be Built

The agreement also lacks a final inspection and verification mechanism.

US officials acknowledge that the system needed to monitor Iran's future nuclear activities has not yet been designed.

Without a robust inspection regime, critics argue there is no guarantee Tehran will comply with future commitments or abandon nuclear ambitions permanently.

Sanctions Relief Could Unlock Billions

Despite Trump's repeated claims that no money would flow to Iran, senior administration officials have indicated that significant economic incentives remain part of the process.

The White House has discussed sanctions relief, access to frozen assets and long-term reconstruction funding if Iran fulfills its obligations.

Officials have even floated the possibility of releasing some frozen funds as an early confidence-building measure.

Doubts Persist Over 60-Day Timeline

Perhaps the biggest question surrounds the timetable.

The Trump administration hopes to resolve decades of nuclear disputes within a 60-day negotiating window.

That target has raised eyebrows among foreign policy experts, given that the Obama-era nuclear agreement required nearly two years of negotiations after an interim deal was reached.

Critics argue that dismantling Iran's nuclear infrastructure, verifying compliance and negotiating inspections cannot realistically be completed within a matter of weeks.

Iran Still Holds Significant Leverage

Despite suffering military setbacks during the conflict, Tehran has retained important bargaining chips.

Analysts note that Iran still has the ability to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and can use its remaining nuclear assets as leverage during negotiations.

Iranian officials have also signaled they intend to closely monitor American compliance before making major concessions of their own.

White House Betting On Diplomacy

The Trump administration insists the agreement offers the best path to long-term peace and believes economic incentives will encourage Iranian cooperation.

But with many details still secret and the full text yet to be released, supporters and critics alike are waiting to see whether the breakthrough becomes a lasting settlement or simply another temporary pause in a dispute that has stretched across generations.
