Hospital Chief Investigated After Beer Appears During Home Blood Test

Featured Replies

A hospital director in Sakon Nakhon has been temporarily reassigned after images appeared to show him drinking beer while drawing blood from an elderly patient. The patient received the home visit because several health conditions made travelling to the hospital difficult. Relatives allege that the director drank in front of the woman, failed to complete the blood draw and left her hand swollen. They also claim he became angry when challenged, demanded 1,000 baht for the out-of-hospital service and told the family to seek care elsewhere. Provincial officials launched an investigation following widespread criticism and concerns from residents about his professional conduct.

Call me old fashioned but I think that disputes of this nature should be dealt with discretely at first, the dr has been "reassigned" pending an investigation so the matter is proceeding, surely it would be better to wait for the result before involving the media. I assume they are Thai and know how things work better than us foreigners, but considering Thailand's somewhat unique defamation laws i would not recommend publicly criticising anybody here , especially online

Having said that if there are any images of him drinking on the job I would love to see them, be like something out of a carry on film

It was shown over and over again on Thai TV3 this morning. Don't think they named him. Blurred his face.

Keep in mind that the Thai way of doing things s not always same as the farang way.

My Thai daughter in law's elderly mother in law was quite ill, the family took her (early evening) to the local small 24 hr hospital,, head nurse told them to bring her back the next morning because the on duty dr. has gone home early.

Instead they put her back in he car and rove another 10 km to another small 24 hr hospital. At first the dr. on duty refused to see the old lady because she wasn't registered at that hospital.

A hr later the doctor realized she was in a serious condition and the problem was a herat condition. the doctor immedialey treated her with appropriate actions and medications. By morning her condition had not changed and all the family still at the hospital,

The old lady's eldest son got a phone call from the 'gone home early' doctor from their local hospital, the doctor abused the son for taking his very ill mother to another hospital and insisted the son had broken several laws.

The angry doctor demanded that the old lady be transpored back to the local hospital immediately. Family decided to do that and paid for a professional ambulance transportation.

When they all arrived at the original local hospital the locl senior cop was there having been told to arrest the eldest son for breaking several laws. Cop refused.

Meanwhile the old lady was getting worse and she died.

End result: the local angry doctor was investigated by the police he was charged. Ultimately his medical license was revoked and his employment terminated.

Family asked the cop to charge the doctor with further serious malpractice charges and that happened.

Doctor's wife and faily had fled. Doctor did 5 years jail.

Sounds like justice was served, Things are not much different here than back in the uk the NHS pays out hundreds of millions of pounds every year in compensation and If I remember correctly doctors were much more likely to be alcoholics than most

Call me old fashioned

I think the good doctor prefers beer to Old Fashioneds 👍

Old Fashioned

2 oz of bourbon or rye whiskey

1/4 oz of simple syrup (or a sugar cube)

2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Don't forget the Luxardo cherry. 🍒
