Trying to locate a band?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Way back in the day, circa 2009-2011 ish, there was a bar on 2nd Road called Tattoo Bar. It went out of business eventually, and the band that played there moved on to other locales. I’d like to find out if anyone knows where that band is playing nowadays?

Do you really think that a band will still be performing 16 years after they moved?

Where exactly on 2nd Road?

Was it on a corner and did it have steps going down into the bar?

How can someone, Keeps, disagree with a question?

I love quests like this, albeit recent nostalgia................this to me, is what Thai visa hopefully excels in ......

Might help if the OP knew the name of the band.

Might have been worded as a question but more of a statement on your part and a snide one at that.

The guy asked a simple question. You had nothing to add but thought you would have a sly dig anyway which so often seems to be the case with yourself.

I saw a Filipino band perform on Samui in 1999. I have seen them perform in a limited number of venues on Samui many, many times since up to and including 2024.

Perfectly reasonable question by the OP.

Anybody remember Richie Newton (German rock singer) performed as Elvis for many years on Samui, from '99 on in fact.................Miss him,was good friend, I believe he's in Cambodia or at least was last time I looked him up...

I remember this place circa 2006/2007. Quite a big place, known for live music. I only went once or twice. I wouldn't say it was on 2nd Road. I'd say it was on Beach Road between the entrance to Walking Street and the junction with 2nd Road. I guess some people might call that stretch Pattaya Tai. If you were driving along Beach Road, then you take the bend to the left just before you reach the Walking Street entrance, then Tattoo Bar was on the right.

Typo.

Is Snowman still around. Loved him and his girl singer.

Yes, remember him well. Used to watch him weekly at the restaurant in the centre of Lamai that hosted the Ladyboy cabaret show. Can't recall the name of the restaurant but that was German or Swiss owned. That is also where I originally saw the Filipino band I mentioned earlier (think they may have been called Ovado or something similar). They also used to perform at the Irish pub across the road which is now the Shamrock.

No, but I remember Thai Elvis --a Thai man--who performed as Elvis not in little Samui but in a restaurant in Thai Town, a neighborhood in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles a city of 7 million people.

There was a chap back in the 1990's who used to do Elvis tribute act in some of the larger curry houses in Brick Lane, London.

Went by the stage name of 'Patelvis Presley'. I kid you not.

Probably belted out 'In the Ghee-to'.

Yes, 2 girls, sexy outfits, knee high big heeled boots. They were actually a very good covers band.

In those days I used to use the 'R Bar' as my main base. Just round the corner from the venues I mentioned heading towards the beach. Two lads from Leicester. One of them, Woody, is still my best mate in Thailand and still has a bar in Lamai. Imaginatively named 'Woody's'...555.

Later at night a few of us would hit 'Bauhaus' opposite the cabaret restaurant for a few cocktails (buy 5 - get a T-shirt) and the foam party. Then maybe off to Buddy's on the ring road to finish the night off. Walk (or crawl) of shame back to the room as the sun was coming up. Truly, truly happy days and a much different time back then.

I'm off to Samui for 3 weeks this Thursday to see Woody and a good few others from back in the day. Can't wait!

That's impressive, 20 years plus and still going..................Lamai was always my getaway from the madding crowd of Chaweng, just the perfect spot to relax...... and towards the end of my time there in '14, we used to go to French Greg's/Baubob resto on the beach, still popular I believe. I have few earlier memories of a fun visit to Lamai while on holiday in '91 when we were staying at Silver Sand bungaows in Chaweng. It was mostly still wooden and single story and even then a far removed feel from Chaweng...........

I can feel the energy in your last couple of lines above, bon voyage...................................

What's up with all these triple quotes. It is happening on almost every post I make. I have to delete them which is not easy. I assume that is why you just didn't bother.

About 5', dark skinned, black hair, brown eyes, snub-nosed with splayed toes, from Buriram. Always happy, spoke a bit of German, liked her Amarit and playing mini-golf, but was only good for 3 holes.
