Why is Call-Center Bombay English so unintelligible?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Sometimes, we need to call call-centers.

And then, we need to talk to guys of Bombay.

Most guys in Bombay think they speak perfect English.

But, do they know what proper English sounds like?

The thing about Bombay-English is that, in order to speak it correctly, one must use TEN words, instead of ONE, when one would easily do.

Also, they speak in some sort of SING-SONG voice, which just compounds incoherence.

Why does it take so long for some Bombay-English speaker to utter a simple utterance?

There could be many reasons, of course, and there probably are.

But, in my view, the MAIN reason Bombay-English speakers at Call-Centers take so long to cough up a very simple, clear, and concise utterance is just because….

They are Drunk on Bombay Gin.

Someday, very soon, AI will replace all these drunken Bombay Call-Center Chaps.

And then, the world will be a far better place.

We will be able to sit back, enjoy life…maybe with….

A gin and tonic, completely stress-free.

What say you?

Are you hoping that AI will soon put an end to the….

Bombay Call-Center Chaps?

Best regards,

And, I hope that Google-One will soon read this message,

Gamma

Note: In my view, AI will very soon put an end to the NONSENSE of outsourcing Call-Center calls to our favorite SUBCONTINENT, and Bombay, especially.

Note2:  What is the point of outsourcing to Bombay, in the first place, when nobody can understand a word they say?

Please go on, get it all out, I'll comment after you make your first five posts. Don't forget to add at least five notes, six addendums and two Jagger videos to each one.

I think I needed to press 1 for Sales, 2 for Support, and 3 to reach the point of this post.

Most europeans find it far easier to understand indians speaking english then the cockney Liverpool accent or the blocked-nose american accent like those loud mouthy ones speaking with an average speed of 500 words a minute as some on CNN or NBC squak box shows.

It is also rather hard to understand some thai's speaking in their version of english.

Thank you....come again.

Makes me wonder where do these companies find these call center's, I know Airbnb used to use Indian call centers, I'm not sure they still do after receiving a massive amount of complaints from host, I remember speaking to one and they asked "Do you speak English?" Yeah better than you,

Thailand is no better, Press 1 for Thai, Press 2 for English, then a lady answers "Sawat dee Ka"

i just insist on being transferred to the usa where folks speak american and stuff gets done

Apparently, there are many companies in India which contract to handle Call-Center services for multiple companies.

This is not good.

But, most corporations do not regard customer service as a high priority.

If they cared about their customers, then they would handle customer service, IN HOUSE.

Probably, however, as AI continues to improve, then the Indian Call-Center business slump.

You know, I'm always kind, never frustrated, never annoyed, with call-centre help. It's a terrible job and I'm sure they get paid almost nothing.

I always chat with them about where they are, did they speak English at home, what's the weather like.

Eventually, you may get to the answer, hit or miss, just as with native English call-centre workers whether Bangalore of Manila.

If you try this stunt, which I have tried many times, there will be two results:

a. First they will transfer you to a BOMBAY COLLEAGUE sitting in the same room, and he/she will tell you that she is located in Idaho, or Iowa, but they are, of course, LYING....

b. Then, if you have had the time to investigate their true whereabouts, they will sabotage whatever you are trying to accomplish.

I tell you, they are even smarter than the partner, and bed partner, of Elizabeth Holmes.

image.png

You just cannot trust them to have your interests at heart.

Who knows what drives them to their madness.

OK.

This is the BEST POLICY.

I do the same, to a certain extent.

But, I will try even harder.

I will try even harder not to bang my head against the wall, with the phone to my ear.

Because it’s cheap, that’s what you want isn’t it?

Has any major corporation ever given you what you want?

I do not want what I am getting from India, in reply to your question.

The Lamb Vindaloo is outstanding, however.
