The guy was an idiot. But negotiating the price beforehand isn't 100%. I've had the taxis and tuk-tuks demand more upon arrival, claiming the traffic was bad or it was further than they thought.

I'm curious how many meters he went for that 300 baht. In tourist areas of Bangkok, that's the flag drop to go 100 meters in a tuk-tuk. It is a ripoff. But that's the way it works. Not worth getting my panties in a wad (or deported) over $9.

In fairness, a lot of them are losing their businesses (or worried that they will) because of the crackdown on nominees. That's probably pretty stressful.

I've been hearing about some fire sale prices on villas and businesses, but that's just the coconut telegraph. It'll be interesting to see if the crackdown lasts this time. It seems that they announce one every year or so.

Denigrating Thais when you are a tourist is having a blowback. Enough is enough and viral videos are not helping at all. Be respectful and adhere to the cultural differences when you are a guest ,long term or not, are sensibilities for a long free living.

A dispute over a few pence in UK money. Utterly ridiculous.

Zero sympathy for Phuket tuktuk drivers from me. It's 200 baht just to get into the tuktuk in Phuket. Then the price goes up from there. Land transport in Phuket is a blight on Thailand's tourism industry.

As a former MI6 operative, I resemble that remark.
