For anyone living in Wongamat Beach, there's a new open mall being constructed across the street from the Centara Grand Mirage resort. It's supposed to open later this year and will contain restaurants, cafes, a grocery store, etc. With any luck, the grocery store will be good. And the area could use a few more restaurants.

This is supposed to be a single story open air mall. We'll have to see what develops, but it was an empty lot before, so anything will be an improvement. I live in the area and it would be nice to have a grocery story like the Tops grocery store at Central Festival. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but you never know.

Oboy, another mall. Called culture in Thailand.

I live very close to there and am very happy that it isn't another condo.

More development on Wongamat Beach. So very sad, it once was very peaceful and a delight to walk down the beach when I moved there 21 years ago. The area already has about 10 Tops, Seven Eleven and Lotus food stores. It certainly does not need any more.

It will surely be great for those that live in that area, hopefully enough of them to support the venture. Those that live in town have too many alternatives and no need to traipse up and down big hills. Parking is always the big Q.

To be sure, the area has a few small Tops Daily shops and a few 7/11s and a small Lotus grocery, but the inventory in those places is basic. You can buy typical small items and beer and some wines, but it's all nothing compared to the Tops grocery store at Central festival, where they have just about everything.

on similar note any news on what is planned for the giant empty space in jomtien....i am thinking big mall along with Tops, movies, bowling, zillion shops and a few hotels/condos?

I love living in Wongmant (coming up to 6 years next month) but am concerned about the amount of new buildings going up & whether the Sois can support the increased traffic.

Take Naklua Soi 16, the 55 storey Arom completed last December (320 Units) now The'yre building the Riviera Palm Beach (300 units) and the Scondri (260 Units) then just around the corned on Naklua Soi 14/1 the "Love It" Condo going up (750 units). - thats over 1,500 new units in an area where the roads are already struggling with things like Coaches picking up / dropping off tourists from their hotels.

Plan is to continue renting for the next year or so and if it gets too much we'll look to move somewhere quieter unfortunately.

The funny thing about some of those large condo complexes is that the owners may only show up once in a while. So it's not as if every condo is occupied by someone with a car.

I agree, though, the traffic can get jammed up at certain hours. 5PM, for example. I guess a lot of people are getting off of work about that time.

Spouse and I used to live at Garden Cliff condo--right next to the new Riviera project you mentioned. Wong Amat was our favorite in-town place we lived, among a number of different stops. We are on the Darkside now.

You are right that there are new projects in the works for Wong Amat--true for all over Pattaya. Meanwhile, the city has done hardly anything in the way of road improvements. The last big improvement of any note was the Sukhumvit Underpass and that was years ago--with nothing since then. Fun fact--there were supposed to be 3 underpasses; only 1 got built. Par for the course.

If I was Beachside, I would still rather be in Wong Amat than Jomtien. You mentioned 1500 new units on the way for Wong Amat. That's a lot--but less than just one of the new Jomtien area mega projects--Grand Solara--with over 2,400 units. Even with increased traffic, Wong Amat is still an easier drive to T21, Central Festival, Bangkok Hospital, Boonthavorn, Index, etc.

There are baht busses that go up and down Naklua Road, but for anyone living at the beach in Woongamat, that's a walk to get home.

In any event, Bolt taxis don't cost much, so if you want to go anywhere, those guys will take you for not too much money.

Yes, more redevelopment in that area by the roundabout, with large plots of land being re-done. Plus, the massive Centre Point 3 resort going up, as well.

Answered by jas007. In my opinion there should be public transportation on the road that runs closest to the beach with all the condos, hotels, and other development that is now there.

I started living that area in Potisan 21 years ago and yes it was great. However the beaches weren't clean like they are now and I remember nearly stepping on the broken neck of a bottle. But that aside it was great. 7 years and then the Chinese buses took over and it was the Darkside for me. Never looked back!
