New e-Scooter service coming?

Featured Replies

I came across all these electric scooters parked up last week.

They seem to be for some sort of pick up anywhere, pay by app, and drop off anywhere service that is being prepared for launch here in Samui. Looks like they come with helmet.

Electric scooters are legal in Thailand but exist in a legal gray area. Technically, scooters with motors over 500W require registration and a driver's license.

I bet these are 499W.

Lots of money for the police as I'm sure they won't provide helmets when you use one.

I just came across them parked off Laem Din market. If you look at the photos, they have helmets in the front basket.

They had something written on the bikes about using an app in order to use them.

I've seen a row parked with sign of renting by use of an app in Chaweng Beach by the entrance to the night life area. However, they disappeared again, probably the owner of the shop they were parked outside, didn't like his apron to be polluted, or the business was not good enough.

Taxi mafia?

This will not work.

Cocovolt tried this before. It failed miserably.

Wow - what could go wrong, Lithium batteries??

reference Google:

  1. June 9, 2026 (Bangkok): An electric scooter suffered a short circuit during the morning rush and burst into flames on the roadside near Don Mueang railway station. Thick smoke billowed from the battery, but firefighters controlled the blaze within minutes with no injuries reported.

  2. July 8, 2026 (Udon Thani): A suspected electric motorcycle fire in a housing estate quickly spread to a parked car and the front portion of a single-story house. Firefighters controlled the blaze and rescued three pet dogs trapped inside

Isn't JT Express the delivery company? And Don't they use that same red / yellow colour scheme? Might be a new idea from them.

Friend of mine in Phuket got an electric scooter some 7 or 8 years ago. The soi dogs would go berserk when he went by as there was no noise. Really funny.

Seems like they are preparing a roll out with these scooters.

I saw several of them parked along from Khao Hom restaurant in Bangrak, by that back road to the airport.

Also a pick up truck loaded with six or seven of them heading in Big Buddha / Plai Laem direction.

Wondering how travel insurance will view these after the first few hospitalisations. Maybe a QR code for Go Fund Me ought to be included on the instructions.

It is a vehicle and motorized so standard exclusions will apply.

I guess they get around any registration or licensing requirement by being classed as low power (<250W) power assisted bicycles. As can be seen in the photo they have at least somewhere that pedals could be attached if need be. Insurance will probably just consider them a dangerous activity, like horse riding.

Not only does the OP state they come with helmets but there are clearly helmets in the basket of each bike in the pictures.

A new low for AN? I know people moan and bash without reading articles, they only look at headlines, but now you can't even be bothered to look at a picture before you bash?

There is a QR code on the back of the scooter to scan to download the JT GO app. I scanned on today when I walked past them.

This uses Bluetooth to connect to, and unlock the bike.

Do they require a motorcycle license?

Let's see you kids have motorcycle licenses, right so give me your money. 👍
