Obviously, the team USA matches were well attended by US nationals and yes, US nationals attended a broad range of matches. However, the USA was not the only team to attend. The small country qualifying matches were more likely to have unfilled seats. The typical US national has no idea where the countries you mention are located, let alone knows anything about them.

The millions of seats were actually 43,000 to 80,000 at any one game depending on the venue. The stadiums, particularly the mega sized locations were not at full capacity. There were an estimated 50,000 Scottish people who travelled to the USA for the Scotland matches. They attended their national matches in large numbers. 24,000 were reported as attending the match in Boston. An estimated 5,000-7,000 English fans have travelled to the USA for the world cup. They are joined by the England expat community at matches.

A large percentage of the ticket sales are made in the host countries. This does not mean that the US match tickets were exclusively purchased by US nationals. Foreign nationals were purchasing a large amount of the tickets. The USA has a large population of non citizens, particularly people who come from Mexico, South and central America. There are literally millions of Mexican nationals living in the USA. They showed up en masse for regional favourites.
