IHT and Non UK Domicile (probably wrong forum)

Featured Replies

My wife is a non UK domicile and I am currently investigating inheritance tax implications

Has anybody put any processes in place , which will mean their spouse will receive all my wealth tax free

the same as if she was a UK domicile

Any info would be helpful

You don't mention your own status but presuming you are, or likely will be by the time you kick the bucket, non resident and non domiciled under the new LTR domicile rules the only "certain" way under the new rules that I can see is to reduce any UK based exposure to £325k and move the rest offshore.

Potentially your wife can declare herself domiciled to double that amount but that brings in other issues as I am sure you are aware. Here are a couple of quick links but there are hundreds online again as I am sure you are aware.

I have no idea on the possible uses of trusts.

Please update us if you find a solution as it will interest many people thumbsup

Actually reading a few more sites it suggests that by doing that it is unlimited. They remain however subject to UK IHT on world wide assets for at least 10 years - unless of course they change the rules again......

So if substantially younger than yourself that may be the option to look at except from reading this it sounds like you need to be a LTR and therefore UK domiciled......

Or live with your wife in the UK so she has UK LTR status........
