Excellent news that BOLT taxi app now has the option for female customers to choose female drivers. This should make sure they feel comfortable in a taxi and also hopefully maintain BOLT in Thailand .

Thats good news.

Some of the drivers make me nervous.

But how many female drivers to male ratio? They may need to wait longer?

Yes, hopefully this will encourage more women to be drivers .

I wonder if Bolt would allow female drivers to only get in queue for women signing up for the new option. That I could see encouraging more women to be drivers. But if they're not allowed to choose only female passengers as well, I don't really see any incentive for them to sign up and be paired with potentially dangerous or creepy male customers.

Maybe women Bolt drivers should all install cameras in their cars.

This would be a great innovation for all ride companies. I do mocy a lot and I'm getting at least 20% women riders, as well as deliveries.

If SWMBO or my kids catch a taxi I always tell them to take a photo of the licence plate and drivers licence .....making it obvious that that is what they are doing.......if the taxi driver objects that's a huge red flag.

Bolt drivers can decide who to accept for a ride. If they don't want a male passenger can refuse and even cancel after accepting a ride , before picking up a customer.

This has complications. Here in Chiang Mai about 2 months ago I booked a Bolt driver to take me to Big C.

The driver arrived, a young Thai woman. No politeness, and I soon realized she was using 3 mobile phones. On one phone she was having a continuous live chat conversation I asked who she was talking to. Abrupt reply 'Mere' (mother). I asked her (in Thai) to stop the discussion. She reponded rudely 'not your business' and she kept talking.

I also later relized she was talking continuously to the Grab office.

After the trip I lodge a complaint on the Bolt app. Two days laterI got a message that she had been dismissed.

This could of course been a male driver.

Of course females can be impolite and Thais are addicted to chatting on phones ..where ever the location static or moving

I thought BOLT had that option for a while. I think it’s good for the female drivers and also for female passengers that maybe feel at risk.

Bolt has had that option for ages. Female customers have to prove they are female by face recognition

They (both Bolt & Grab) should offer this to female drivers. I thought Bolt (or maybe it was Grab) offered female driver option for females for sometime. I did, a few years ago, book a lady driver for my GF to get home in Bangkok. Was a good safe option. Very happy but I believe now, only the lady passenger can actually make the request.

On another note, a friend and I booked a regular Grab about 18 months ago during daytime. Lovely lady driver arrived in a nice car. Not sure if she spoke English as we conversed in Thai. Nice lady and a lot of fun, safe driver and knew where she was going. I gave her a good tip and a glowing, complimentary review both on the app and the direct driver contact chat which open for a short period after the ride. She replied "thank you" and to my surprise, added her phone number too 555.

not new, for over a Year already

Correct...my daughter has been using 'lady Bolt' for at least a year. She must have her ID on the app, so the lady driver knows it is actually a female requesting the ride.

Little bit more expensive, but safer for women.
