Authorities in Vietnam's Dak Lak Province have launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing maggots in a chicken dish served at a housewarming banquet, summoning the catering business owner for questioning while inspectors examine the food preparation facility.

On Tuesday, officials from Ea Ktur Commune initiated an investigation after social media posts circulated showing alleged larvae in food provided by Ni Ya Catering at a housewarming party with approximately 70 tables of guests. The video rapidly spread online, garnering thousands of views, comments, and shares, prompting immediate action from local authorities.

Investigation Launched at Catering Facility

According to Y Ngon, chairman of the local People's Committee, officials visited the Ni Ya Catering facility on Tuesday morning to inspect the premises and verify the origin of the food as well as the allegations shown in the viral video. "We are conducting an on-site inspection to establish the facts. We will provide information to the media once the investigation is complete," Y Ngon told reporters.

The commune chairman added that local officials would meet with relevant agencies later on Tuesday to clarify the incident and handle any violations in accordance with the law if wrongdoing is discovered. The catering business owner has been summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Viral Video Raises Food Safety Concerns

The incident came to light when a social media user posted footage showing a chicken dish being reheated over a stove at the housewarming banquet. The video allegedly depicts numerous maggot-like larvae crawling through the chicken as it was being heated—a troubling image that sparked widespread concern among viewers and prompted rapid community response.

For expatriates and foreign residents in Vietnam, the incident underscores the importance of verifying food safety standards and catering service credentials before booking events. Dak Lak Province authorities have committed to a thorough investigation and have assured the public that findings will be disclosed once the examination is complete.

The case highlights ongoing food safety concerns in Vietnam's catering industry and has prompted renewed calls for stricter health inspections and enforcement of food handling standards.
