Thaiger reported that the CAAT has recently permitted the opening of luggage of air travel passengers without having to have the owner of the luggage present.

Wonder how they will proceed ? Do they have those TSA lock master keys ? Or will they plainly break open the suitcases ? And how to be 100% sure there will be no theft ?

Why did they not plainly have a system used in many european airports. In case of any suspicious item on screening, they put a clamp like boot/bolt on the suitcase which forces the passenger to show up at customs to have it opened and checked.

Exactly.

As mentioned in the initial comment they should have put such clamps to avoid opening and thus passenger is forced to show at customs and thus no need to open during the handling of luggage when the passenger is not present and breaking the lock.

So don't lock your suitcase.. I never do. You are told not to put valuable items in your checked-in luggage. If someone wants to steal my dirty boxers, up to them :)

Yup, they can hunt though my dirty laundry all they like, although they would need full hazmat gear if they opened the ziploc which contains my site boots

Much ado about nothing. With the recent spike in the illegal smuggling of ganja products being copped on arrival overseas and originating here, the Thai airport authorities needed to fast-track an intervention at this end.
