Armed man arrested at Trump's California golf course ahead of fundraiser

Suspect detained before presidential visit

A heavily armed man has been arrested at President Donald Trump's California golf course just days before the President was due to attend a private fundraising event at the property.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies took Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, into custody on Sunday after federal agents reported seeing a suspicious individual photographing the grounds and appearing to monitor security preparations at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Trump was scheduled to appear at the exclusive fundraiser on Tuesday evening.

Loaded firearm found in vehicle

Deputies stopped Taele after receiving reports of suspicious behaviour and allegedly discovered a loaded magazine in his pocket.

A subsequent search of his parked vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun along with additional ammunition.

Authorities later confirmed Taele was also under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a separate robbery case.

He was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition.

Search uncovers weapons cache

On Monday, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, assisted by FBI agents, executed a search warrant at Taele's home in Downey.

Investigators said they recovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45-calibre pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines and a large quantity of ammunition.

Officers also seized two radio signal devices and several notebooks containing what authorities described as "concerning statements."

Authorities say no credible threat identified

Despite the discovery of the weapons and ammunition, investigators stressed there was no credible threat to the public or to President Trump.

Security surrounding the fundraiser continued as planned, with law enforcement maintaining a significant presence at the golf club.

Officials have not publicly disclosed any evidence suggesting the suspect intended to target the President.

Trump returns to California

The fundraiser marked Trump's second visit to Los Angeles since returning to the White House.

His previous trip came in January 2025 when he toured communities devastated by the Southern California wildfires.

California Governor Gavin Newsom used Trump's latest visit to criticise the administration, claiming wildfire victims were still waiting for promised federal assistance.

"Donald Trump promised he'd 'take care' of Los Angeles firestorm survivors," Newsom wrote on X. "Eighteen months later, he's flying back to LA. Not to help, but to host a fundraiser at his golf club."

President highlights economic record

Trump dismissed the criticism and instead pointed to what he described as his administration's economic successes.

Writing on Truth Social, the President accused political opponents and sections of the media of attempting to divert attention from his record.

"The Fake News and the Dumocrats are doing everything they can to distract people's thoughts from these MASSIVE Successes," Trump wrote. "This is the GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA, and we're just getting started."

The investigation into the armed suspect remains ongoing, with federal and local authorities continuing to examine the evidence recovered during the searches.

Definitely not a mental illness that causes all these people of the left trying to assassinate our President. Or post silly lies about him.all day long on forums winding themselves up into ever more dizzying hights of irrational hatred.

So, dont tackle the problem. Just ignore it and hope they simply stop trying to kill him. Sounds bonkers to not tackle the hate and mental disease, but thats just me

The mongrel dog grifting mutt is very very easy to hate, brings it all upon himself.

Having guns is a normal in America. A lot of right wing conservatives and democrats have guns. It's a right not a privilege. Arresting someone with guns in the car is not an offence.

In his case he had an illegally modified AR-15 and prohibited ammo, which can mean a few things. That he could have been staking the area out is a concern for sure. "photographing the grounds and appearing to monitor security preparations" That surely can make officials think. Having guns isn't the problem, as I and many others have them in our vehicles a lot of the time.

Civilized nations have told the US before- ban guns.

But you don't listen, and so it goes on and on, never ending.

How long till the next mass shooting hits the papers?

So, Trump made up all the anti-Trump fake news to cause the irrational hatred?Trump forced the lefts beloved sacred BBC to splice a speech hours apart to totally change his meaning & intent?

Starting to look alot like victim blaming, which I thought the left viewed as a big no no? Most confusing....

Seeing as discussing the mass mental illness that causes all these assassination attempts is not possible, lets ban guns!🤣

Just think, if we banned eating and drinking within a week there would be no more violence ever again.
