There you go, I posted facts for you..........oh, I forgot that you are a MAGA, and facts don't register in the tiny minds of MAGAs.

Yet another success for Trump's administration, as he secured the release of American Robert Gilman WITHOUT having to release a Russian prisoner, as is customary. Master negotiator this Trump, great work.

And very nice of Vladimir Putin to make this humanitarian gesture. If only Ukrainians could be this reasonable.

Russia releases former US Marine reported in poor health

Robert Gilman, who was arrested in 2022, was left in "life-threatening condition" after being subjected to "harsh and abusive treatment", his family says.

Not a good look for Putin or Trump if a US marine dies in Russian captivity.

Ukrainians are fighting to avoid extermination. Would you be reasonable if someone was trying to annihilate you?

Nobody heard of this guy until Russia released him. Putin could have held him and have him die from pneumonia, and nobody would have cared very much. Actually only now that this person is released will there be all this propaganda about him being maltreated in captivity, Putin is exposing himself to this quite knowingly. This was a mere humanitarian gesture by Putin.

Russia is not trying to annihilate the Ukraine, they are merely attempting to prevent Ukraine from joining the US and EU camp, just geopolitics. Ukraine could end the war today if it gave Russia what it wanted, but of course first Boris Johnson and then the EU encouraged Ukraine to keep fighting. Terrible political failure.

The narrative here was the US stockmarket is going somewhere hot in a handbasket. Dealing costs are insignificant in the face of the forum lefts (totally false & silly) prediction of financial armaggedon.

Either you are fibbing, or you thought for yourself so are not a bona fide forum leftie. I suspect option A🤣

Putin is a humanitarian? I guess that's why he is targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

I suggest you ask Ukrainians their opinion before posting arrant nonsense. Give Russia what it wants, do you apply that philosophy to your own circomstances?

Stalin took a shot at genocide with the Holodomor. Under the Soviet Union. Russia was migrating ethnic Russians into eastern Ukraine to fill the void left by famine. Russian was compulsory in schools.

Putin has made no secret he wants the Soviet Union back. Killing every Ukrainian is a necessary precondition.

The term humanitarian gesture and Putin in the same sentence is about as oxymoronic as it comes.

He's getting older now, maybe it made him softer. He released this American without asking for a Russian prisoner, it's unusual. Targeting civilian infrastructure in war is what Britain, Australia and the US did in WWII, why is it so shocking when Russia does it? Yes, Stalin tried genocide, but the US did in America, the Brits all over the world during colonial times. Ukraine kills small children playing on a beach with drones, they certainly have no problem killing civilians.

Putin of course does not want the USSR back, that's just NATO propaganda. Killing every Ukrainian? No cogent person can think this is remotely possible, let alone Russia's goal.

Very wishful thinking. If only reality was within a hundred miles of your statement.

More destruction from Don the Destroyer. The critiques of Trump’s policies come from organizations on the left and on the right. One of the toughest comes from the conservative think tank founded by Mike Pence, Advancing American Freedom.

In a detailed analysis, “Tariffs Tank Employment: Assessing One Year of Liberation Day Evidence,” its authors found that “Across the first year of Liberation Day tariffs (April 2025 through March 2026), manufacturing employment shrank by approximately 6,250 jobs monthly on average,” and there was a slowdown across sectors “on the order of 75,000 to 80,000 fewer jobs per month, or roughly 900,000 fewer jobs over a year relative to the pre-Liberation Day trajectory.”

The Liberation Day tariffs were the largest single-episode increase in effective U.S. tariff rates since the eve of the Great Depression. As a result, families and businesses are paying more for both imported and domestically produced goods.

Economic growth declined, and foreign direct investment fell. Farm bankruptcies spiked as export markets shrank and machinery and fertilizer costs rose. Manufacturers dependent on imported components became less competitive globally. The unlawful tariffs triggered retaliatory barriers that harmed American exporters and frazzled supply chains.

If tariff revenue stays at the level recorded in January 2026 for the rest of the year,” it wrote, “American families would in total pay more than $330 billion in tariff costs in 2026, an average of more than $2,500 per household in tariff costs this year.”

The Trump administration has completely turned its back on soft power, which has been a central foundation of U.S. influence around the world throughout the postwar era. This also reflects zero-sum thinking. Soft power is about influencing constituencies, peoples and politicians around the world so that they do things that are both in their best interest and consistent with U.S. objectives. Hard power is much more zero-sum, which is what Trump understands and values.

In order to promote a “win” for ideological groups within the Republican Party, the Trump administration has created, respectively, an America that is less innovative, a tax administration system that functions poorly and rewards tax cheats, a large increase in global human suffering alongside an enormous hit to U.S. soft power, and a less healthy American citizenry.

Trump the policymaker repeatedly does more harm than good. He is trapped in a maelstrom of zero-sum thinking, profound narcissism and an unshakable faith in his instincts. It’s a combination that imposes heavy costs on a vast majority of Americans — and that’s before we get to the rest of the world.

That's not reality, just the usual anti-Trump propaganda from the NY Times. The truth is employment figures under Trump are much improved:

Total nonfarm employment has increased by roughly 13.2 million jobs, while the unemployment rate has decreased from 4.8% down to 4.1%.

While long-term employment is up from nearly a decade ago, the labor market in mid-2026 is experiencing cooling and unique structural pressures:

  • Recent Cooling Trend: The economy unexpectedly shed 23,000 jobs in July 2026, driven by significant seasonal layout adjustments in local public education (-50,000) and retail trade (-19,000).

  • The "Wrong Reason" Rate Decline: While the unemployment rate looks historically strong at 4.1%, economists note it fell recently because roughly 264,000 Americans left the workforce, causing the participation rate to slip to its lowest level since 2021

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/economy/2026/08/08/unemployment-rate-july-2026-jobs-report/91212744007/

So, retirement, seasonal teacher layoffs and retain layoffs, nothing to do with tariffs.

Fertilizer prices rose because of Biden's support for Ukraine going to war against Russia, a big mistake by the Democrats, Boris Johnson and the EU. Indeed many of us paid the price for this failure of politics.

Fertilizer prices have risen because 20% of the world's oil supply is interdicted by Iran, thanks to the White House idiot who has no Plan B.

I thought this thread was about Trump's current failings. Look over there at Biden is not the subject.

What price did you pay for this so-called failure of politics?

AFAIK the only price I have been paying is at the gas pump, after Trump started the two-week war.

The gas prices went up straight after the Ukrainians decided to go to war against Russia, backed by Biden, Boris Johnson and the EU. This led to a global increase in energy prices, so we've all been paying for Biden, Boris' and the EU making these stupid mistakes. And they were the ones who caused fertilizer prices to go up sharply because of the Ukraine-Russia war.

You're trolling, and very poorly as usual. I said Ukraine decided to fight. At one point they were considering signing an agreement with Russia, when Boris Johnson flew in at the request of Biden and persuaded the comedian to fight against Russia as the West would back him.

Go read some news, you're poorly informed, CallumWK.

Funny it seems that all articles and AI do not agree with that number.

A 13.2 million job increase refers to the employment growth achieved during the first 30 months of the Joe Biden administration rather than under Donald Trump. Critics and fact-checkers noted that this figure largely reflected workers returning from pandemic-era lockdowns, whereas job growth metrics and monthly averages varied across Trump's separate presidential terms. [1, 2, 3]

Context and Job Metrics

  • A PolitiFact analysis identified the 13.2 million figure as belonging to the post-pandemic recovery phase under Biden

No, the 13.2 million job increase refers to the increase in jobs from Trumps first day in office to today. Because Donald Trump served a full first term (2017–2021) and returned to office for a second term in January 2025, the data below compares the U.S. labor market from January 2017 (the start of his first term) to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) figures as of August 2026.
