For the most part, agents specialize in retirement extensions. Anything else is not what they do on a regular basis, and therefore requires more work for them, or is out of their ability to obtain. Which means 99% of the time if you go to an agent and you are over 50 years old, they will be doing the extension based on retirement. Your wife's extension was obtained based on retirement for that exact reason. It was not based on being a trailing spouse to you. You can try having her apply for her next extension based on being a trailing spouse to you. It would mean a shorter extension, because it will only be until your validity date. This would sync up both of the extensions together. It's possible to do this, they would require proof that your wife met the requirements of the last extension. That means proof of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account in her name only for 3 months after the extension was received, and then never dropping below 400,000 baht. They are fully within their right to request this, since it was a requirement of the extension she received. If they do require it, then you will not be able to do any extension on your own if these funds are not something you can show. That means you'll be using an agent again.
