Subang runway closes after helicopter fire

A helicopter caught fire during an engine test at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang Jaya on Saturday, closing the runway while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

Fire broke out during engine test

The Kamov Ka-32 helicopter was preparing for an engine test after repairs when it caught fire at about 12.30pm, according to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

The aircraft, registered UR-CIT in Ukraine, was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Four people on board escaped. One person outside the aircraft was reportedly injured after being struck by debris.

The airport's Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Service joined the operation, while five firefighters from the Bukit Jelutong station attended with a fire tender.

Runway temporarily closed

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia confirmed the incident and said the runway was closed, with further updates to follow. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

No details of any wider flight disruption were immediately provided. The incident occurred during a ground engine test rather than a scheduled passenger flight.
