Why would anyone, any age, be taking a statin, without some cardiac / blood vessel issue.

If to contral cholesterol, I hope every other option was tried first. Diet, exercise and overall lifestyle. Statin, and drugs, would be a last resort measure. A healthy person taking statin doesn't make sense for most.

Yes, very strange. I have elevated LDL levels and I'm grateful for statins. But why would someone take them without cause?
