More than 500 pickup trucks carrying durians have set a Guinness World Record in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, putting Dak Lak’s signature fruit and its growers in the international spotlight.

Guinness World Records recognised the convoy on Monday as the world’s “Largest Parade of Fruit-Carrying Vehicles”. It was staged during the 2026 Dak Lak Durian Festival, with trucks loaded with the province’s durians travelling in a coordinated procession.

The event brought together local authorities, the Dak Lak Durian Association, growers, businesses and residents. It was supported by Ca Mau Fertilizer, which said the occasion was intended to promote Vietnamese agricultural products and help the Dak Lak durian brand reach buyers at home and overseas.

More than a publicity event

Durian is an increasingly important crop for Vietnam’s agricultural sector, but a record-breaking parade does not by itself guarantee export success. Organisers said broader progress depends on improving fruit quality, recognised growing areas, farm practices and the ability to meet market standards.

Those standards matter particularly as Vietnamese producers seek to expand in competitive overseas markets. Consistent quality, traceability and reliable supply are key considerations for importers, while growers need support that helps them meet more demanding requirements.

Dang Huu Thang, deputy director of marketing at PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer JSC, said the convoy reflected the combined efforts of farmers, businesses and the wider community. He said the company’s role was to support growers with nutrient solutions and technical assistance aimed at raising crop quality and value.

Growing Dak Lak’s profile

The festival used the convoy to turn a local harvest into a national promotion for the Central Highlands. For visitors, it offers another reason to look beyond Vietnam’s better-known city destinations; for businesses, it highlights a producing region that wants to move further up the agricultural value chain.

The Guinness recognition is a visible milestone, but the longer-term test will be whether it helps Dak Lak growers secure stronger markets and better returns for their fruit.
