Anwar orders probe after fatal Maju Junction crash

Featured Replies

malaysia-maju-lead.jpgPrime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered an immediate investigation after an Immigration Department truck crash at Kuala Lumpur’s Maju Junction killed three members of one family early on Wednesday.

Fatal collision

Police said the Immigration Department Isuzu truck entered the Jalan Sultan Ismail intersection at about 1am against a red light while its beacon lights and siren were activated. It collided with a Proton Saga moving through a green light, then skidded into pedestrians and another vehicle.

A 53-year-old man and his daughters, aged 25 and 12, died at the scene. Their 55-year-old wife was injured and taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Investigation ordered

Anwar said there must be no compromise if negligence or a breach of the law is established. The driver of the Immigration truck and the Proton Saga driver have both been detained to assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The incident has renewed attention on emergency-vehicle safety and road users at busy city-centre intersections
