Carney draws a line with Trump as Canada fights to protect sovereignty

Canada has the valve on oil, gas, fresh water, electrical power, timber, potash and the road to Alaska.

The U.S. has Trump.

And what a horrific burden that has turned out to be. Carney out classes Trump by miles, and comparing Carney's intelligence to Trump's, is a bit like comparing Albert Schweitzer to Justin Bieber. Trump is both a dunce and a pig.

  • Seems crazy to have trade barriers with your nearest and largest trading partner. Canada should just join the US. Who cares about sovereignty when a few % points of GDP are up for grabs?

It's OK. Carney has our backs. I wonder what sports Trump played while finishing in the bottom 5 at Wharton's?

And a freighter-sized backroom full of stinky American rotting bourbon to use as molotov cocktails to fire from the roof tops if it comes to that...

With Farage as the next PM? Don't think so Bro. 😄

FWIW I think Canada is right to tell the US to shove it. Sovereignty and self-governance is far more important than a few % GDP points.

Same reason Britain was correct to leave the EU.

Maybe the Libs across the pond will finally get it?

Farage? 555. You sure do pick winners don't you? Thd only politician I've seen with worse numbers than Trump.

Nigel Farage favourability, August 2026

https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/55382-political-favourability-ratings-august-2026

Opinion towards Nigel Farage remains in a similar ballpark to that seen in recent months, with just 23% of Britons holding a favourable opinion of the Reform UK leader, while a full two thirds (67%) see the populist unfavourably, including a majority (55%) seeing him very unfavourably.

Although Farage’s latest net favourability rating of -44 is not an all-time low, it is down 17 points from the -27 recorded last May in the aftermath of Reform UK’s breakthrough at the 2025 local elections.

51 trillion USD in assets sitting right next to the US. Basically undefended.

Just invade them.

Hilarious. I do hope that didn't take too long to come up with...

I've had auto generated passwords funnier than that. 😄

The fight for Canada is a fight for the resources under the land there.

It would not be much of a fight. Trump's crack military would vanquish the Canadians within 48 hours.

Trump should just take the 33 trillion USD in natural resources. They're wasted on Canada.

Why is he being so civil to Canada and negotiating with them? Just take it!

In active troops the US has ~1,400,000 whilst Canada has~72,000~, so the US outnumber Canada 19:1.

Combat aircraft, the US has 2,948 whilst Canada has 92. The US outnumber Canada 32:1 in combat aircraft.

Aircraft carriers, the US has 11, Canada has 0.

Magic just keep paying those taxes.

Bessent has just threatened to sanction China's banks over Iran. If he actions that, and they retaliate, Trump will have far bigger things to worry about than Canada.

In fact, he has weaponised the whole US financial system to threaten all countries. Nothing like being threatened by someone when you are holding massive amounts of their debt. I wonder how this will shape the future of holding such debt.

27 minutes ago, Cameroni said:

The war with Iran is as good as finished, did you not hear Bessent's economic warfare announcment? It's not like Iran has much capability to attack the US.

Now would be a perfect time to invade Canada. Let's compare the current state of both militaries.

Battle tanks, the US has 4640, whilst Canada has 74. The US outnumber Canada 64:1 in tanks.

Nuclear warheads, the US has 5042. Canada has 0.

It would be like taking candy from a baby! Why does Trump not attack Canada immediately!??

Might does not make it right ....

Indeed the tax burden in the US is very onerous. But the good news is that with Canada's 33 trillion USD in natural resources, 4 trillion USD in real estate and 14 trillion USD in corporate assets, the US can lighten its tax burden considerably.

US citizens could get a massive tax cut if Canada's assets are seized by the US.

Of course health care is also a burden in the US. Imagine the delicious irony if the US were to use Canada's assets to make US health care more affordable.

51 trillion USD, just there. Waiting to be seized. Canada would be defeated in 48 hours, experts agree.

If the US invade Canada and seize its assets the US would be subject to a whole plethora of sanctions. Like Russia, Iran and others, the US could live with that, especially once it seized 51 trillion in Canadian assets.

As for debt, I'm sure you'll agree it's better to give the loan freely, than to be invaded and have all your assets seized, as Canada could soon find out.

Who is today still asking if it was right to seize the lands of Amerindians prior to the creation of the US and Canada? Nobody, that's who.

People accept and adapt. The Canadians too would accept and adapt to the reality they are Americans, eventually. Well, most of them. The rest would have to be liquidated obviously.

Dear Canada. We will trade you Donnie bone spurs trumper for Carney. I know that is a horrible deal for you but maybe you can station him somehwere near the north pole with no wifi and let him bellow into the wind.

No. Alberta would not love to secede (you must be MAGA) from Canada. It's a few inbreds in and around one of the smaller cities (100k?) making a lot of noise and getting way too much media attention. At least I get to vote in the October referendum.

Me too,

No to the 9 and remain in Canada

While the US is busy taking Toronto, I expect the North Korean army will be busy trashing the Whitehouse from the backs of garbage trucks. DPRK armed forces is 1.3 million, with recent experience of ground operations against a peer military. The last time the US fought a peer military was 1945. If it was about numbers, then Red Dawn comes true.

Of course the US invading Canada because of the price of milk is utterly ridiculous., It serves as evidence of that some members are displaying signs of dementia.

The Russophiles/crypto-communists pushing this line, that because of numbers, the US military will swamp the Canadian military, conveniently, and predictably predict, that there heroes in Russia also possess a numerically superior, and better equipped military than neighbouring Ukraine, and in 4 years have utterly failed to vanquish Ukraine. Or indeed, contemplate how their fellow communist travellers, China, got on against Vietnam.

In reality, on paper the US has about 1.1 million active service personnel on CONUS. 100-150,000 of those could be deployed on combat operations over a few weeks, a time scale over the forum dementia loon's plans for world domination. Upto 400,000 could de deployed after a few months. The US military will still need to defend the US border against Mexico. Options for tactical nukes against assembled Mexican militaries would be limited due to the proximity of major US centers of population. Unless you are writing off places like San Diego.

For the Canadians, its a different matter, they have 60-65,000 regulars in Canada, limited worldwide deployments. They can add to that another 30,000 in a mobilised reserve.

A US attack could not occur out of the blue. The US would need to assemble land forces, and where this would be would be fairly predictable, due to the natural obstacles, such as the Great Lakes.

Conventionally, an attacking force would need a 3-4:1 superiority. To get to that, the US would be signalling, months before, unusual troop redeployments, and readiness training, because 150,000, or 10-15 divisions, is not enough. The US military cannot afford an extended campaign, and would need to seize, and pacify, major Canadian centres of population, while at the same time defending its wider interests, not least Texas or California for opportune Mexican seizures, or China finally capturing Taiwan. After an initial of an obviously crazed US leader, the US cannot count on the Commonwealth, and NATO member standing idly by, while watching kith and kin being murdered because of the price of milk. It would have been an utterly bonkers decision by the US to attack Canada, because of milk, so one cannot assume other leaders will action rationally. I have no doubts there will be splits in the US military, which has been through this before 160 years ago.

Provided the US occupies Canada, then the size of the Army of Occupation would depend on whether Canadians are passive or hostile. Assuming hostile, the US will then need to deploy a force of about 800,000 to 1 million (based on a modest 20 goose stepping occupiers to 1000 restless natives). Iraq needed 10-15 per 1000, Northern Ireland 30 per 1000, Bosnia 25 per 1000, It it really went tits up for the occupier, then you look to Algeria and Chechnya for guidance. Algeria needed 60 per 1000, and the French lost. Russia needed 150 per 1000 and had to level the place (then pay to rebuild it, then they had to pay an enormous annual tribute to a Quisling army (TikTok Warriors) who would constantly threaten to attack Moscow). That doesn't include necessary troop rotations. In order to maintain the occupation of the annexed territory of Canada, the US will likely need full mobilisation of its entire reserves, plus possible conscription. The cost will be enormous, all because of the price of milk. Canada will be the graveyard for many a Floridian, Arkansas, New Mexican boy. At the same time, the US will find it increasingly difficult to defend its global interests without resorting to nuclear warfare.

Well Trump is already ruined American prestige and influence so why not stoop down to the level of a fastest republic and attempt to take over all the neighbors while we're at it?

Well since Trump doesn't have any real skills I doubt that they would take us up on that offer, he's too old to be able to be useful in a labor camp and the only place he truly belongs is prison. That would end up costing quite a bit of money so he's completely useless as far as Canada is concerned, except perhaps as a prisoner of war.

Regardless it would sure be great to get rid of the pig clown.

Mark Carney is a giant, he's an absolute hero, and a brilliant man compared to Trump the dunce, and watching him standing up to a bullying and nasty version of the US is an absolutely beautiful thing to witness.

Let's go Carney, even many Americans have your back at this point, and the vast majority of Canadians could not possibly be prouder of you, and more ashamed of the Don Pig.

All those assets are only worth something if you have someone to sell them to. All the potash in the world is no good to US farmers if the country is under a trade embargo. Same with all US goods.

And if China, Japan, and all the other large US debt holders sell said debt (because Bessent has now shown it can be weaponised against anyone), and Chinese banks pull all US investment due to Bessent’s threats, how will Trump sell that to the country? Not forgetting the Rare Earths ace card.

Gold is going to go a lot higher.

You're right of course, you do have to be able to sell your goods. Which is why sanctions fail, there's always someone willing to buy. Let's say China, Japan, the EU they would all put sanctions on the US. There would still be countries to sell to. That's how Russia is surviving. If Russia can live with sanctions, so could the US. Again, the payoff would be having the 51 trillion of Canadian assets. There's a huge internal market in the US, don't forget, many US companies would buy oil from Canada, even if the company is owned by a new US owner.

I don't think China will pull all investment in the US, for the simple reason that China needs the US, as a market to sell to. It does not want to let the US market disappear for Chinese companies, that's not going to happen.

I do agree Gold will go a lot higher. I'm invested in Gold myself now.
