My father had a crush on her and, somehow, my mother managed to tolerate it. I didn't understand all the details of that until I got older.

I wasn't much of a country music fan growing up, but whenever I caught a glimpse of Dolly Parton on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show segments, she earned my absolute respect. Coming from dirt poor, humble surroundings reminiscent of Abe Lincoln or WWI hero Sergeant York, she built an incredible career .

Country music....chok for the ears.
