Thailand restates support for Ukraine sovereignty

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reiterated Thailand's respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in a message marking Ukraine's Independence Day.

In his letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people, Anutin said Thailand remained committed to closer bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Zelenskyy later shared the message on X, thanking the Thai leader for his "warm wishes" and saying Ukraine and Thailand had much more to explore and achieve together.

Thailand cites UN Charter principles

Anutin said Thailand highly valued the longstanding friendship and cordial relationship between Thailand and Ukraine.

"Thailand highly values the longstanding friendship and cordial relations between our two countries," he wrote.

The prime minister said he looked forward to working with Zelenskyy to further develop bilateral ties and broaden cooperation for the benefit of both countries and their people.

He noted that 2026 marks the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Ukraine. Anutin also restated Thailand's respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity under principles set out in the UN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Zelenskyy referred to the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine's independence in his response. He said he was pleased that both countries shared an ambition to unlock the full potential of their relationship and create new opportunities for their people.

Thailand has maintained diplomatic relations with Ukraine for more than three decades, while seeking to uphold the principles of the UN Charter and regional treaty commitments cited by Anutin.

I'm a little surprised but happy to hear it

Thailand and Russia are expanding trade, energy cooperation, and investment ties, highlighted by high-level diplomatic visits and preparations for the upcoming 2nd Russian-Thai Investment Forum in Bangkok in October 2026.

A pleasant, smiling face is one thing. Ultimately, actions count, not fine words. That's the reality. And Zelenskyy knows this, and knows well how to play the game.

Sure but when did Trump even say those words of support for the sovereignty of Ukraine?

Trump never used these words. And even if he would have - it would about the same worth.

As said, nice words aren't actions. And so far there are no actions. Called also diplomatic etiquette.

I think not bad for Thailand who nobody in the world expects to be an important player in this war.

Trump on the other hand has a disgusting phony VP who stated his greatest accomplishment was cutting off all aid to Ukraine.

To add, Trump didn't send even one official to the Independence Day event in Kyiv.

I'm American but my president is working for enemies of America.

I agree.

Because so far, Thailand never commented about the war between Russia and Ukraine.

It always seemed, that Thailand silently supported Russia.

Or is Thailand finally getting sick and tired of all the Russian problem makers in the country and by showing support for Ukraine, they let Russia know, that their citizens are not welcome anymore, in an unspoken way?

I don't think so.

My impression is that Thailand has been more or less neutral.

Recently they made a big energy buying deal with Russia.

So nice words for Ukraine but on balance they are definitely not anti-Russia.

But the US still sends weapons to Ukraine, Thailand does not. Talk is cheap.

Arms aid was completely cut off.

That creep Vance bragged about that.

The US was selling to the EU to be given to Ukraine for profit.

Now the US because of Trump's moronic mistake in Iran has run out of weapons to sell.

Ok, so no arms lately. Just 60 odd billion USD before.

Hope much has Thailand sent?

aggressor country to dock.

What exactly is your argument here?

You are complaining about arms being cut, then complaining about arms being supplied and making money?

You seemed happy enough with the latter when arms were going through, you cant have it both ways.

You have to wean people off any type of aid and help them stand on their own feet, its just not sustainable otherwise.

Ukraine now makes 50% of the arms and equipment it needs, that's a great achievement by them .

Putting money in the box at the beginning of the war for the Ukrainian women and children who had to flee to the UK, you know, real refugees as opposed to those illegal economic migrants who turn up in boats.

I also donated quite a lot of surplus military kit I had to a local ex military guy who was organizing shipments to the Ukraine.

What about you?

So nothing close to the 26 million baht that Thailand has donated then? And you accuse them of donating peanuts?

You are truly a legend, giving it all away like that.

Crack on.

The point about Anutin's message (v. above) is that he doesn't confine himself to the 'Happy Independence Day' level.

His 3rd paragraph is explicit in reaffirming "Thailand's respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine". He didn't need to say that so it's a fairly strong message of support in the current circumstances.

Thailand is a country of 71.56 million, its contributed 26 million baht. That's 36 sitang each.

I on the other hand have contributed in money and equipment around 400 quid, that's around 16,000 baht. So yes, I guess I am a legend and thanks for recognizing it. Just imagine if the Thai government contributed per head as much as me, it would be well over a trillion baht !!!

Anyway, back to my question to you, how much have you contributed?

To this forum? Probably more than you.

But I digress.... I am not into cock waving, especially with a legend like yourself.

No cock waving, more of a gentle sway side to side for me due to my enormous girth, I'm known as a legend for that too.

Besides, you asked me about my contribution to Ukraine, I told you.

What have you contributed to Ukraine? You failed to answer so far.

Dear Mr Anutin why are you aiding Mr Putin to kill men woman and children in Ukraine. Do you understand that every Russian National arriving into Thailand gives money in Air fares from Russia to Phuket and every buisness deal you are seeking with Russia is aiding Mr Putins war efforts.

Absolutely, you definitely are.
