Nene Royal stops dispute at Phuket's Naka Market

Featured Replies

A video posted on 29 August shows Phuket singer Nene Royal halting a live performance at Naka Market after a dispute appeared to be developing among foreign spectators.

Nene, whose full name is Rattikan Amloy, is a 16-year-old Thai artist from Phuket who has become known following her appearance on America's Got Talent. The footage was shared by the Facebook page of Satit Pituetcha.

The clip shows the singer performing and playing music at the market, where she is a regular performer, when foreign members of the audience began arguing and appeared ready to fight.

Singer warns audience to stop

According to Satit, Nene told those involved repeatedly to stop and warned that she would end the performance immediately if they did not.

She then moved to stop playing. One foreign spectator asked her to continue, and Nene told the fan that she would perform one final song.

Satit said Nene had gained extensive experience through performing music and other activities before achieving her present success. He described her response as strong, powerful, decisive and gentle.

What it means for foreign visitors

Naka Market is a well-known evening market in Phuket, where visitors and residents often gather for food, shopping and live entertainment. The video is a reminder for foreign tourists and expats that performers and market operators may stop an event if a disturbance develops among spectators.

For anyone attending live music, markets or other crowded public venues in Thailand, the practical message is straightforward: disputes can quickly affect everyone nearby, including performers and other customers. Avoiding confrontation and stepping away from an argument can prevent a minor disagreement from disrupting a public event.

A regular Phuket market performance

The footage offers a glimpse of Nene's earlier performances in Phuket before her recognition on the international television stage. Satit said the Naka Market appearance was among the experiences that helped shape her as an artist.

His post praised the teenager's ability to take control of the moment without escalating the confrontation, while still responding politely to an audience member who wanted the music to continue.

Ha ha, blood idiots.

I'm sounding like a broken record.

The worst thing about Thailand is some of the foreigners
