Klong Thom Blaze Contained as Crews Tackle Lingering Hot Spots

Bangkok officials say the major fire at Klong Thom Centre is now under control, although several hot spots remain trapped beneath steel structures inside the building. The blaze began on August 28, injuring 11 people and forcing the shopping centre to temporarily close, but no deaths were reported. Firefighters are using infrared-equipped drones to locate remaining heat while crews cut through steel beams and deploy excavators to reach difficult areas. Air-quality readings have returned to safe levels after initially elevated PM2.5 and PM10 levels, though people near the site are still being advised to wear masks because of dust. Around 200 affected residents and vendors have registered for assistance, with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration preparing financial aid and helping businesses find temporary locations.
