Cities across Vietnam will stage fireworks on September 2 for the country’s 81st National Day, with major displays planned in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi alongside celebrations in tourist centres and provincial capitals.

Seven locations across Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City has scheduled 15-minute displays from 9pm to 9.15pm at seven locations. The Saigon River Tunnel entrance, New City Center in Binh Duong Ward and Tam Thang Tower Square in Vung Tau Ward will combine high- and low-altitude fireworks.

Low-altitude displays are planned at Ba Ria Square Park, Dam Sen Cultural Park, Saigon Marina IFC Tower and the Kim Long Villa area near Rach Dia Bridge. The tunnel entrance will host the centrepiece, featuring 1,000 high-altitude fireworks, 200 low-altitude fireworks and special-effect launchers.

Art performances, exhibitions and sporting events will also take place in central areas during the holiday programme.

Hanoi plans five firing sites

Hanoi will operate five sites across four locations from 9pm to 9.15pm. Two are in Hoan Kiem Ward, in front of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper headquarters and the Hanoi Post Office. Other displays will be held at Dua Island in Thong Nhat Park, the F1 racetrack at the National Sports Complex and Lac Long Quan Flower Garden.

The capital plans to deploy 3,700 high-altitude fireworks and 390 low-altitude launchers in total. The shows form part of a wider programme of cultural performances, sports activities and tourism events.

Displays extend across the country

Quang Ninh will hold a 10-minute artistic show at 9.45pm in the Lighthouse area of Bai Chay, following a 3D-mapping, music and lighting performance. Hai Phong’s Central Bay in Cat Ba will also stage fireworks at 9.45pm, with the free show lasting no more than 15 minutes.

Other confirmed locations include Dong Nai River and Dai Phuoc Commune at 9pm, Hoang Van Beach in Quang Tri from 9pm to 9.10pm, and venues in Thanh Hoa. Earlier displays are planned in Ca Mau and Ninh Binh, while Cao Bang has announced an evening event at Pac Bo Square.

Times and arrangements vary, and large crowds are expected around prominent waterfront and city-centre viewing areas.

What it means for foreigners in Vietnam

Foreign residents and visitors have numerous free viewing options, but should arrive early and expect traffic restrictions, crowded public transport and limited parking. Local announcements should be checked before travelling because access routes and firing schedules may change.
