Man held after wife dies in alleged stabbing in Kulim

A 39-year-old woman died after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband following an argument at their home in Taman Tiram, near Kulim, police said. The 43-year-old suspect later surrendered at Lunas Police Station.

Kulim police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring said the victim, identified as S. Sila, was taken to Kulim Hospital by family members but was pronounced dead at 9.30pm.

Police said the incident occurred in the master bedroom of the couple’s single-storey terrace house, where they lived with their three-year-old child.

Police investigate alleged jealousy row

Initial inquiries indicate that an argument between the couple may have been triggered by jealousy. Officers later found what were believed to be blood traces on bedding, a pillow, a headboard and other items in the bedroom.

Police collected 11 samples from the scene as part of the investigation.

The suspect reportedly went to Lunas Police Station at about 8.40pm and told officers he had stabbed his wife. He handed over a folding knife believed to have been used in the incident.

Child handed to relative

Police said that after the alleged attack, the man bathed and collected the couple’s child from a babysitter before taking the child to his sister at the Juru Rest and Service area in Penang.

He reportedly told his sister what had happened before proceeding to the police station. He was arrested at about 9pm, and a 20-centimetre folding knife was seized.

The victim’s body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code.
