How many of Thailand's 77 provinces have you visited? One traveller just finished all of them

I was recently reading about a traveller that just announced they've visited all 77 provinces. It took them a few years, split between teaching English and travelling as a tourist. They got around mostly by public transport, with a few road trips with local friends to reach the hard-to-get-to places.

The favourites they named weren't the usual tourist spots. They rated places Thai people holiday in, like Nan, Loei, Songkhla and Chumphon. They also praised the friendliness of the Isan provinces, including Yasothon, Surin and Sakon Nakhon.

I'd like to hear about other experiences

• How many provinces have you visited? A rough count is fine.

• Which one surprised you most? Somewhere you expected little from and loved.

• Any tips for getting around the harder-to-reach ones? Buses, trains, motorbike ?

All except Narathiwat. Just passed through Pattani, didn't overnight there. So 75.

Self drive is best. Or public trans & motorbike rental when arriving. Although for us, the journey is just as important as the destination, and more so sometimes, when repeat visiting. Always try to take a different route also.

Not many 1, 2 or 3 # main hwys we haven't been on, and more than a few 4 digit # roads.

Don't stay in the metros too long, and stay off the beaten track. We avoid most tourist areas. Been to most long before they were even more over develop of late.

We head Southward most times, as closer for us, (Muang, Prachuap), with Chumphon, Surat, NST, Phang Nga, Krabi, probaby topping our favorite, most visited areas.

Did NE & N quite a bit when we lived in Udon Thani, for 16 ish years. 10 yrs now at Prachuap.

6 provinces on the eastern border I havent been to, and so far I have had no reason to ride through them or any special reason to stay.

Interesting timing for this topic because only this week I asked my wife if she was interested in "doing the 77".

I have visited 43, I think, although I don't think I have actually stayed (at least one night) in all 43.

My favourites so far are Ching Rai, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Buriram and Rayong.
