Thai Woman Finds Man Under Bed at Czech Hotel

A Thai tour operator has warned colleagues about a five-star hotel in Brno, Czech Republic, after a woman in his group allegedly found an unknown man hiding beneath her bed.

Korn-ek Thummarukkit said the man fled the property after the woman ran from her room to seek help. In a Facebook post on September 29, he criticised what he called weak security and an inadequate response from hotel staff.

Guest saw fingers under the bed

According to Korn-ek, the woman had entered her room when she noticed fingers protruding from beneath the bed. She initially believed she had seen a ghost, before realising that a man was hiding there.

She became frightened, called for help and ran out of the room, he said. The man then allegedly came out from under the bed and left the hotel.

The group immediately alerted hotel staff but said they received little meaningful assistance. They asked for the woman to be moved to another room, but were told this could not be arranged.

Staff reportedly said a manager could meet the group at 9.30am the next morning. However, the tour group was scheduled to leave for its programme at 9am.

Police contacted after delay, operator says

Korn-ek said the group asked to see CCTV footage after staff initially appeared not to believe that an intruder had been inside the room.

He said the disagreement with hotel staff became heated and that the group struggled to get the hotel to contact police. Police were contacted after a wait of around 30 to 40 minutes, according to the post.

Police could not settle the matter immediately and advised the group to make a formal report the following morning, Korn-ek said. The group was due to leave Brno that day and travel on to another city.

Korn-ek said he was not angry with police, but was upset by the hotel's response and staff repeatedly saying they could not help. He said the group was fortunate that the incident did not develop into something more serious.

Warning for Thai travellers and tour groups

The operator questioned how the man entered the hotel, claiming there appeared to be no one stationed at the entrance overnight. He urged other tour companies to take care and said he did not want colleagues to use the hotel.

Facebook users responding to Korn-ek's post expressed alarm. One said they did not want to imagine what could have happened had the man done more than flee, while others suggested publicising the case through the Thai Facebook page Drama-addict and leaving a one-star Google review.
