Social Development and Human Security Ministry holds seminar to suppress child abuse

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is organizing a seminar to educate leaders of local administration organizations, with an aim to protect youths from child abuse.

The seminar will enable local officials to help protect child welfare in accordance with the Child Protection Act 2003. Officials from local administration organizations and other relevant agencies from 20 provinces join this seminar to recognize the importance of child protection.

Mrs. Rattanawadi Kowapradit (รัตนาวดี โกวประดิษฐ), the Bangkok Child and Family Care chief, says child abuse has become more violent and complicated, and more youths have been sexually harassed. She says most of them are from eight to 15 years of age, and many have been molested by people in their families. She says a number of families have a wrong perception of family value as they see children as a family possession. As a result, there are high chances of child abuse.

Mrs. Rattanawadi also says most children with autism have been abused by others due to their low IQs. She says autistic children may find it hard to understand their parents’ orders, and the parents would get upset and physically hurt them.

Thus, this seminar is being held to allow officials to take part in protecting children under the Child Protection Act 2003, and the seminar will also form a network of people who will help prevent violation of child rights.
