Carmine6
What the government should be doing is using the strong baht to buy technology and expertise from overseas. I would like to add a massive English study program to be set up, nationwide. (They should have done that 30 years ago....) Children should, as an obligation, study English from first grade on -or earlier- and continue to do so whilst attending schools and universities. You need native English teachers for that, but instead the government makes it difficult since they 'protect' their own teachers...and stupid laws. Any youngster would benefit enormously when they would speak/write and read fluent English for their own future and the future of Thailand. But, sadly enough, the rulers of this country just think about their own power, money, greed and protection of their own circles. LaoPo Use the strong baht to buy cheap farang labor? hm.... Well, yes, that's the point. They (government) should pay these teachers acceptable salaries in order to boost English knowledge throughout the country. China is more clever and understand that they need more English native teachers and although the salaries are not up to Western standards they're paid relatively well. Why Thailand doesn't do that is a mystery...OR the government/elite wishes to keep it the way it is. The tough visa rules aren't really helping also.
