I have a Thai wife and am eligible for a British O A Pension in December I am waiting for the forms now. To qualify for the married mans allowance my wife needs a UK N.I. number. This is possible but can take a long time up to a year but a friend of mine it took 3 years because he wouldn't always comply with their requests. As any one done it quickly without the usual misinformation by the civil? servants. The current wifes marriage allowance is £52.30 a week paid to the man till the wife is 60 then to her. After the man death, she at 65 she gets a UK pension again she must have a NI number, also at 45 she gets a widows pension I believe.

This surely can't be the case - there would be 40 year old Thai women in their whordes marrying British old age pensioners!

And doesnt she have to be a Uk Citizen first to get this? my wife is not and tho only in my early 40's will she get anything before or after I die?

If she can get money after your death, for Christ's sake don't tell her. :o

So when I'm 72(if I pay my back contributions), and my wife is 60, she'll get a pension? I expect I'll be trading her in then for a younger model :o If I'm still batting for Scotland, as they say.

You can if you wish download the forms from the DWP web site.

Read and complete the form carefully to show you wish to apply for a dependent (your wife).

You will be sent more info and they will need an original copy of your marriage certificate and birth certificate. My Thai wife does not have one so I sent a certified (by a civil servant etc) copy house registration and identity card all of which they they take a few weeks to translate into Thai. Send by registered mail.

You will be sent an Outcome Decision of your pension application. Make sure that this shows you are married.

The nationality of your wife is not important and the DWP will get her an NI number.

I am 73 and my wife is 53. My problem is that I did not get an outcome decision and only found out at the beginning of last year that DWP had been sending me a single pension. This stupidity has been rising up and up and I am now waiting for the Commission's decision. Might have to go to the Ombudsman to get 7 years of back pay!!

Good luck, but do visit the DWP web site.
