My wife's father is a Saw Jaw in Prachuab Khirikhan. I've been hanging around the saw saws, saw jaws, kamnans, puu yai baans for years now and have never really understood the organizational structure, the pecking order, or the history. Anyone can educate me? Thanks.

Anyone with any info? Father-in-law was elected for 20 years straight until a few years ago he lost. Anyone a little knowledgeable on local politics in Thailand?

My understanding is that a Saw Jaw is an elected member of a Provincial Assembly (Samachik Changwat = Saw Jaw), a Saw Saw is an elected member of the National Assembly (Samachik Supa = Saw Saw).

The pecking order in ascending order is:

Puyai Baan (Village headman)

Kamnan (Tambon headman)

Saw Jaw

Saw Saw

The actual power structure depends on who can their hands on the most cash in a particular province.

My transliteration is bad and a native Thai speaker would be able to give you better information.
